vonage users, please read

hi guys! I have Vonage and even though my connection is about 600K down and 400K up, I have very broken audio.
Has that happened to anyone else? Can you tell me how to solve it?

Thanx :)

I get bad line noise, until I connect, then it's crystal clear. Running 3 meg down 1 meg up.

Go into the web panel http://192.168.15.1 as described in your hand books the username and password are in the manuals. Once there look for where you change the audio quality and change them around a bit might make all the differnce. Even though you connections should be fine as they only use 15kup and 15k down!

Does it happen all the time?

We've been using Vonage now for over a year...it happens occasionally, but not often enough to be terribly annoying...

If it's continuous, I'd get in touch with them. Also check the phone you're using. That was one of our problems. The phone was going bad.

You need to turn off quality of service QOS in your router options, too. Otherwise it will strangle the phone's usage. Or something like that...

I've gotten choppy audio if something else is being downloaded at the full bandwidth throughput at the time of the call. Otherwise no problems at all.

It is preferable (they won't tell you this) to make sure that the vonage router is the one that connects to your DSL or cable modem.

You can also make sure that the QoS is correct... so far I have vonage and I am good with it... and a nice savings over what my phone bill has been in the past.

Only when the bandwidth consumption here is at its peak. Audio quality is good on the average.

I will send Martina or Warren over, they got Vonage and it sucks from this end.

MikeVega 02-27-2006 09:33 PM

I set it up so long ago ..but i do recall have that problem because i plugged my main cat5 into the vonage and then my router in to the vonage ... when i put the router in first then out of the router into the vonage i had no problems .. not sure if this is even close to what your looking for but i just recall that ...:2 cents:

It happens occasionally... sometimes it's just purely the internet connection. Last week Comcast in the Midwest was evidently giving Vonage some problems.

Call Vonage customer service and they can go into your router online and do some tweaking.

I had to do that on my vonage fax line and initially I was getting echoing on my voice line. They fixed it with just some setting adjustments in the router.

Is this better than regular long distance telephone service? They charge $25 per month whcih is abvout the same as what SBC charges so what is the difference?

That shit has been happening to me also lately. Vonage still has more pros then cons. If you go into the dashboard and lower the rate to the middle you should be good.
