Running Mac OS X on your PC?

Anyone doing this yet? Since the advent of the Intel based Mac's there is evidently a torrent of OS X 10.4.4 going around that will install and run on any x86 box. I'm on vacation and don't have access to an extra machine so I haven't done it.

I have a feeling there is going to be a total meltdown at Apple once everyone finds out that OS X on a P4 blows away the $5000 G5. I'm considering selling my Apple stock if this is not contained.

Actually I love OS X and have a Mac as a media machine. But it would be so cool to be able to dual boot XP and OSX on my big Intel desktop.

Dont sell the stock just yet. I think it is going to go up some more.

Lucky for me I bought in at 15$

Has anyone actually run this on thier machine? How is the compatability with native x86 programs?

thats pretty sweet i like the osx gui a lot better than winblows... i'm just not a huge mac/apple fan

Mac OS sucks. You're better off running Linux. But I'll stick with XP. :)

shoplifter, i can give you some tips in regards to running OSX86 on beige hardware, and it just so happens i've been trying to hit you on ICQ lately but don't have your "other" number handy... hit me up when you have a chance bro, and hope all is still going well over there..! 557799

only works on certain hardware at the moment, and that will most likely remain... you'll have to stick w/ configurations that mimic the x86 hardware that is in Apples own computers. right now this means Intel 915 chipsets, w/ some reports of semi-success on 945 and a couple others... you need a processor that is SSE2 enabled (and higher, SSE3) to get proper performance, and very limited in choice of graphics cards for now.

it will only get better though, once the new Powermac line finally surfaces we'll have OSX86 binaries showing up that are tailored for high-end systems and the party will really start... unfortunately for some though, you'll be pretty much married to Intel to play this game, Apple won't be coding hard support for AMD processors anytime soon w/ their Intel exclusive contract. too bad, as while i'm not a fan of AMD's regular consumer offerings running OSX86 on a dual/quad Opteron box would be damn nice..

mmmm no idea what my chipset is LOL I know it's a Pentium D....

it can be done.. did it once.
its SLOW as hell with the emulated shit

SilverTab 02-27-2006 01:16 AM

I knew you could run os8 or 9 with emulation but not X!...(not saying its not possible, just that I didnt know you could)

SilverTab 02-27-2006 01:22 AM

But its not emulation they are talking about...

since Mac now has Intel hardware...it will be possible to run a i86 version of mac os X on the pc...

OS X is built off BSD. It's a Unix with a nice GUI.

Mac OS > *

What I am hearing is that there are now hacks that completely circumvent Apple's security chip and chipset requirements and will run on pretty well anything....Even with working USB and Firewire. Now I haven't done this myself so I can't say for certain but it stands to reason there are a lot of black hat guys playing with this.
