disabling the sigs on GFY

If the sigs would be disabled on gfy would you still post or read posts at gfy?

8 Characters 02-26-2006 05:31 AM

Yes, because the posts would be higher quality.

Left the way it's going now, GFY will be dead in 5 years.

StuartD 02-26-2006 05:31 AM

I dunno about you, but I'm here for business #1 and stimulating conversation #2.

If sigs are gone, the business aspect gets a serious decrease. I can't promote my stuff or that of the companies I represent. Therefore, no need to be here.

Ace_luffy 02-26-2006 05:32 AM

nice poll.......

Agree with you, without sigs it will loose its charm :winkwink:

you alse loose the sigwhores posting. Means the thread you started will stay longer on the first page. And you will still be able to promote your business.

There's a separate forum for selling junk - maybe this should be sigs-enabled and fucking around & program discussion should be sigs disabled, avatars enabled?

It wouldn't be GFY without sigs :upsidedow

I agree...
I found so much useful info at other people's sigs (icq, their web sites, new sponsors) and had so much fun reading their funny stuff from sigs...
Killing sigs would kill GFY spirit....

8 Characters 02-26-2006 05:50 AM

On a serious note:

xclusive 02-26-2006 05:51 AM

I've found a lot of great programs to promote through sigs. Mostly smaller niche stuff and solo girls sites that wouldn't have the money to buy advertising but convert great. GFY is a great tool still just gotta know how to use it. If you don't like sigs just disable them.

what's wrong with working, living on gfy and taking money from sig, besides all the other incomes?

I agree that sigs should stay ... its the posts that need to be monitored.

Also, you shouldn't being relying on your sig for business .... you should rely on the thread you create or jump into.

I switched sigs off back when Juicy's started taking up about 3 inches of screen, but even before that, as a matter of principle, I would never click on a sig.

The reason is that most things people promote are completely run-of-the-mill and that is especially true when it comes to things people can promote with minimal effort: in this context, just by taking a minute or two to set up a sig. Instead, I click on links within text if the text makes the product/service sound interesting, and often just because the poster has gone to the trouble of writing a decent promo piece. That alone makes him/her stand out from the crowd here and might mean they put something extra into their product/service too.

no, it won't. GFY is here to stay (unless Playboy closes it)... It's the place where all of us come to, to vent our frustrations, where we find help and where we simply hang out.
It's like the neighborhood Irish pub. Without the beer and with a lot more pussy!

JDL seems to be a consistent abuser with an oversize sig and yet the "enforcement" that effects others does not seem to apply to him or other preferred SigWhores. Not to mention the thousands of moronic, thoughtless, uncreative, humorless, boring, and meaningless threads used as an pathetic excuse to whore the "product of the moment" even further.

What would be useful would be an option to the "ignore list" that simply would not display any thread started by the selected "whores". Another thing
would be "equal" and "consistent" enforcement of the sig rules for all GFY posters. I don't agree with pulling all sigs because of a group of "losers & abusers", but that group will continue unless the mods do something.

LadyMischief 02-26-2006 09:30 AM

Since when is GFY a democracy?

Manga1 02-26-2006 09:45 AM

Some of the sigs people have are really annoying. I turned off sigs a while ago and gfy is a lot easier to read as a result. I can understand promoting your company in your sig, but the sig whores and the idiot see sig posts are just annoying :2 cents:

SomeCreep 02-26-2006 10:44 AM

sigs rule

Young 02-26-2006 10:46 AM

Just turn them off. Now I just wish I could turn off the whores....like AdultChica and a couple of others.

Her idea on participating in "business threads" is giving her opinion on how good of a person someone is. fucking dumb bitch.

sumphatpimp 02-26-2006 10:48 AM

I don't come here for the sigs,
I come here to laugh at the silly bullshit you post.

RawAlex 02-26-2006 10:50 AM

Note before I start, yes, I am flying a big banner in my sig... one of those things :)

My opinion is this: Sigs should be limited to a very short number of characters, no images, no flash, no "nothing else". If you can't say it in one line, don't say it at all.

sig whoring has turned what was a somewhat useful board into a hellish playpen filled with surfers and college students trying to earn beer money. It is truly sad.

Alex

MrJazz99 02-26-2006 11:09 AM

Let the sigs exist, its a forum with free speech, its not necessary to put any further regulations....

VicD 02-26-2006 12:02 PM

Sigwhoring is a part of GFY, if you don't like it turn them off :)
Can you turn them off?

Clownbarf 02-26-2006 12:05 PM

If you don't like looking at sigs then turn 'em off in options! I've had mine off for years. Had them off for so long I actually forgot that I turned them off and just assumed that sigs weren't allowed here until I seen this post. So I turn them back on to see what I've been missing all this time and WHOA. It was like trying to read the paper while a clown midget was doing back flips on the left of me and a 10 man band was playing jingle bells on the right. While nice if you're in the mood, very distracting.

baddog 02-26-2006 12:07 PM

Ask Dr Dre how long his board lasted with no sigs

tony286 02-26-2006 12:11 PM

The days of this being a serious business only board are over, they have been over for quite a while and it has nothing to do with sig whores lol

jjjay 02-26-2006 12:19 PM

wouldn't care.

SmokeyTheBear 02-26-2006 12:22 PM

i would simply add a sig to every post i make , i made a program to do it for me..

Didn't you wonder why you see the words "see sig" in almost every thread on gfy ???

pornguy 02-26-2006 12:27 PM

Without the sigs, 40% less business would happen here. And I agree with smokey, I would just add it in every post.

remove that shit from your posts. I'd thought you'd got over your annoying stage a year ago. are you bringing that side of your personality back?

mrthumbs 02-26-2006 03:23 PM

fucking sigs

Furious_Male 02-26-2006 03:26 PM

I like the sigs. I investigate a lot of programs etc. that I find in peoples sigs. Without them the board would seem vanilla.

2HousePlague 02-26-2006 03:28 PM

If they were ALL disabled, maybe -- 'cept for sponsors. I think it would be a little like removing the adverbs from the English language, though.

beta-tester 02-26-2006 03:36 PM

nice question....but I'd rather like them to stay, coz they make money to many people ;)
All in all it doesn't matter to me.

selena 02-26-2006 03:54 PM

Sigs don't bother me at all.

People who have been here 2 months with 10K posts bother me.

gfx3 02-26-2006 04:35 PM

Sigs should be more discreet, not the huge banners, only a button or 2 or only text sigs. Those big banners are a bit to much.

Violetta 02-26-2006 04:37 PM

I love sigs!

Sam Granger 02-26-2006 04:44 PM

I just sold my sig for 2 years so I'd want them to stay...

Would still visit though if they were disabled.

adultfora 02-26-2006 04:48 PM

Why not just say: max 4 linies of plain black text or just one 468x60 banner

flashfire 02-26-2006 06:28 PM

sigs are fine...actually I like them because I always find new programs...but I would still post without them
