Is this what you wanted to do growing up?

Looking at where you are now, and thinking back to when you we're younger... would you be impressed/satisfied with what you've done with your life so far?

My answer is no. I am dissapointed. I see people around me making a lot less money, but they have a normal life... a pension plan, a career, advancement possibilities, interviews and promotions...

:disgust

Nismo 02-26-2006 12:52 AM

In all honesty - no. Im actually pretty dissapointed. Im kinda lacking a strong work ethic and that has seriously hindered my success. I should be a millionaire many times over, but I slacked and didn't do things that I had planned due to lazyiness. I make way more than my friends and even my parents, but still, it sucks cause I shouldn't be here at this point in my online career. heh. damn. this is getting to me now :(

sweetpiece 02-26-2006 03:54 AM

haha, well, growing up? i'm only 19, but started my first little cam site when i was 16. before that, i had no idea of what i wanted but it wasn't porn related. once i started having fun taking pics, and now run trying to run my paysite and freesite, i can see a future in porn. if not porn, i probably would've gone into personal training or yoga instruction or something neat like that

being canadian and whatnot i grew up figure skating so that was my ballerina/astronaut goal when i was a kid

You seriously want that shit? hahaha.. damn man.
Why don't you
- put money towards your own pension, that's what I do (well, it's mandatory here anyways)
- Career? I'm a CEO of my own company and I call the shots, I can't really get a promotion

If you want to interact with people, go to school or some shit.. why go to a workplace where you'll get bored and gray in a few years. Damn man, I can't even begin to relate to what you're feeling.

To answer your original question, yeah.. I'm pretty happy with my life. And although I haven't become what I wanted as a kid (Supreme ruler of the world OR Donald Duck), I'm doing what I enjoy.

RayBonga 02-26-2006 04:15 AM

Yes, since I was just a little child I always dreamed of becoming a sigwhore on gfy.

And now my dream as come true.

8 Characters 02-26-2006 05:01 AM

I never knew what I wanted. I never planed anything. I just got what everyone else didn't take.

everestcash 02-26-2006 06:25 AM

you know, it's not what I wanted to do, or to be when I was younger, but then, right now I'm pretty happy with what I am and do. So that makes my younger expectations wrong from this age's angle.

jimthefiend 02-26-2006 06:29 AM

I wanted to join the Army, which I did (11 years). Porn wasn't exactly my folow up plan, but not a bad one. I'd have retired fro service NEXT year if it wasn't for that fucking injury.

Wiggles 02-26-2006 09:16 AM

i love what i do, well my adult stuff, my mainstream job i hate, still job hunting.

The Heron 02-26-2006 09:24 AM

I started this when I was still in high school and it has carried me through this far. I'm very happy to be here, it has opened my mind and really let me see a side of living most people who go straight to coporate work never see.

Furious_Male 02-26-2006 09:28 AM

Oddly I never had aspirations of being anything in particular. Somewhere in junior high I realized being able to sell was important when it came to making money. I went that route and it has paid off thus far.

So I guess yes this about where I expected to be at this point.

sickkittens 02-26-2006 09:31 AM

Always wanted to be a pro baseball player - a stretch, yes - but it's weird seeing guys I played with in the Majors or playing pro ball around the world.

czarina 02-26-2006 09:33 AM

not at all. I wanted to be a writer. Instead I am in porn, working my butt off sitting at home. Instead of traveling around the world writing.
Oh well!

To quote Chuck Palahniuk

""We grew up thinking... We'll be rock gods or movie stars. But we won't, And we're just learning this and we're a little pissed off""

It's better than what I hoped/expected. I always wanted to become a
millionaire. Now I'm millionaire and made my fortune with porn......What else
can a guy wish for? (except less taxes) :thumbsup

psili 02-26-2006 09:46 AM

My perspective changes like the tides. Some days I appreciate where I am, other days I fucking snap and get all bent because, for some reason, I'm just grumpy. And I'm not just talking about money wise, it's everything I'm thinking about; money, future bride, house, job, health, personality, etc.

I figure if the "bad" thoughts were more frequent than the "good" thoughts, I'd have changed something to tip that scale toward happy. So, by that mentality, where I'm at is where I'm at, and that's currently my happy ground.

Oh I forgot the humour tags.....this is obviously a GFY reply as I'm not a millionaire. :winkwink:

sfera 02-26-2006 09:54 AM

i would say im right on track

pornguy 02-26-2006 09:56 AM

I did one of th things that I grew up wanting. Did it for 10 years, and then moved on for love. And I am as happy as ever. Like everyone, some things could be better, and some could be worse.

tristan_D 02-26-2006 07:12 PM

its way too far from what I imagined myself doing back in high school, but I think life has its ironic way of ensuring that you at least get the things you need

Pornwolf 02-26-2006 07:22 PM

If the internet was the way it is now when I was 13 I would have gone directly into porn. I love the online business, porn and mainstream.

Unfortunately back then there was no real internet.

A bit disappointed but I guess it's still too early for me to lose hope and give up. :)

u-Bob 02-26-2006 07:48 PM

no, i wanted to be rich and powerful :)

reynold 02-27-2006 03:44 AM

i love my life. i admit i made a lot of mistakes along the way but i used them to build a better person out of me.

The Demon 03-03-2006 11:31 PM

This shit may be nice to do on the side but no way in hell would I make this my life, too many low class losers in this business.

syntacks 03-03-2006 11:50 PM

i wanted to be a psychologist. no joke.

i do this, been around the industry since '99, whatever, many have been here longer.

what i find not so impressive is the attitude of ppl outside the biz, and those personal relationships in the know, but whatever.

i've had to take risks, i've had to make those sacrifices, here i am in porn. mainstream can make mad dollars off porn, it's a proven business model. it's successful. the goverment now want's a piece of the action via taxes, imo, corporations are corporations, just because of the product... i think ppls attitudes will change over time.

DeanCapture 03-03-2006 11:58 PM

I always wanted to be a musician. Played in rock bands when I was younger - hit the club circuit - never had any money but did have all the poon-tang I could handle :winkwink:

Woke up one day and realized that I was getting nowhere. Discovered photography and loved it more then anything...but struggled for years trying to figure out how to make a living at it. Up until the last few years I lived in poverty. Stayed that way until my work reached a level that people started hiring me to shoot. This past year I shot content for Penthouse, MacandBumble, Danni.com, Twistys and a few more high-profile glam sites. A few months ago I signed an exclusive one year deal with Twistys and have had a great time with them. It's been a long hard road for sure but things are looking brighter and brighter each day :thumbsup

PR_Dave 03-03-2006 11:58 PM

When I was a kid I owned a board game called Power Barons. I always wanted to be one of those guys.

Now I am a Porn Baron.

Loving it! No complaints.

See sig. :pimp

PatrickKing 03-04-2006 12:09 AM

Im actually quite proud of where Im at now. Im not elite but I make a pretty good living. Daughter in college .. house just about paid for.. I really want for nothing. I was a poor kid and grew up in a criminal enviornment.. I made it through with a few scars and bruises. I outlived quite a few of my childhood friends, Im ok with where I am :)
