You can start your selection from the monitor - if the colors are very important fo you, select CRT monitor and desktop, of course. If you need a portable sizes and the colors on screen not mean all, follow this way: notebook is more hardly to upgrade, such to change or add DVD-RW drive, network adapters, install powerfull video card, etc. But the notebook you can get with yourself, it is more compact. The final task defines your selection

Totally depends on your needs, really.

Personally, I NEED Dual processors, a ton of RAM, dual displays. I have a Dell Precision Workstation with dual Xeon 3.0's and dual Samsung Syncmaster 213T's.

But that suits my needs...what are yours? Low cost or high performance?

I still love my Asus laptop from http://discountlaptops.com .

It's a solid, generic laptop that performs wells. Don't know if I'll ever go back to name brand after having a generic that outperforms similar priced mainstream models.

That, and aren't most name brand computers built with the same components as the generics anyway, just with a different "wrapping" ?

I'd never even consider buying a comp off the shelf. You get what you pay for, and when you buy a $399 PC from Dell, you're gonna be getting a system with nice specs and inferior parts. Its a gurantee.

Build your own. Its worth the extra time, hassle and money.

Get the Samsung 204T and run it at 1600 x 1200. The image display is gorgeous.

For Laptops I like the Toshibas.

Gateway has some nice duel core desktop PC's.
