If you're doing non-hardcore in the US, just get an SMS aggregator and charge per premium rate message (as long as the carriers give your messaging campaign the go-ahead).

I was trying to sign up at http://www.txtnation.com but their signup form is not working for me...

Not a good start right off the get go... Hopefully they get that fixed and it's just a small glitch.. It looks like their service might be decent if you could actually sign up to use it..
