The Coast Guard and Homeland Security are required by federal law to run security at our ports. That will not change. Nor will ANYTHING change except that now a new corporation will be in charge of administration.

The company that runs those ports now is a UK based one, and was recently purchased by the Dubai interest. Why hold them to a different standard than the UK? It's nonsense.

Congress has NO business whatsoever interfering with the sale. They have no oversight authority for business dealings made between two foreign nations, and Bush would be absolutely correct in slamming a veto on any effort to do so.

Anyone who claims this is a security threat is a fucking dipshit, no offense.

Well I'm not poor, and this has nothing to do with who I voted for. I don't think congress has ANY right to meddle in this, and am pretty certain that doing so would be outside the bounds of legality r.e. the legislative branchs authority.

Also, this isn't something "the current administration has done". It's a business dealing between two companies from two foreign nations. It boggles my mind why this is even an issue.

Well as far as I've encountered when flying in and out.

A few months after 9/11 I was pulled out of a checking in line at JFK. They went through my bags with a fine tooth comb and detectors. I nearly missed my flight but this was of little concern to them.

The three Muslim students in front of me were not pulled out of the line.

When I pointed this out and told them that a middle age business man was very unlikely to be a terrorist and Arab looking were. The security official said I was being racist and did not understand the situation.

Also the last time a person on the check out asked you the security questions, were they looking into your eyes or finishing off booking you in? They spew out the same script 1,000 times a day and expect someone to say yes I have a bomb in my case.

Because it?s usually a safe bet that he is wrong. Just like someone would be offended if you were to show Deep Throat to a bunch of 12 YO bible study students. You don?t have to do it to know that someone is going to be pissed.

Between Bush wanting to sell the ports and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels wanting to sell The Indiana Toll Road to a Spain/Australian (or whatever country they are from, it doesn?t matter) company, I don?t know if there is any hope for this country as anything other than a nation controlled by, subsidized by and owned by foreign interests.

Daniels has proposed entering a long-term lease with a private Spanish-Australian consortium (who also operates the Chicago Skyway) to run the Indiana Toll Road. He says the 3 billion or more he hopes a private company would pay for a 50-year or longer lease is the only way to pay for many needed road projects in the state.

It makes perfect sense to me, and I live in Indiana.

The Bush family has long time friends in the UAE. There is a HUGE difference between a British firm and a Saudi owned firm in charge of operations at a port. So on the surface this doesn't smell right. Remember in the UAE the children are taught to hate Americans in school.

This is clearly NOT in the best interest of the US and should be stopped. The president can veto a bill and congress can override the veto. On this one there are prolly enough votes.

BTW, many of your sites are banned in the UAE. They are not in Britain. A couple of other points. The government in the UAE actually is involved in ownership of the company involved. Other agencies being responsible for security isn't even an argument worth having. There are just to many opportunities for foul play when in charge of port operations.

I am less than 20 miles from the Indiana/Michigan line. He is selling a Northern Indiana asset and plans to use most of the money for pet projects in Indianapolis. And even if he wanted to spend the money evenly across the state, it wouldnt matter.

The toll-road was built with Indiana taxpayer money and bonds. Tolls were used to pay those bonds, and now that the toll-road is making progress at paying those bonds, this jackass wants to sell it off to a foreign company.

Its a short term fix to a long term problem. When the $3 billion is gone, the state will still be broke and the mismanagement will still continue. The problem is the reckless manner in which Indiana (and Michigan, too) spend money and run up huge bills on projects that they have no idea how to pay for.

Only a complete moron would view this type of situation as a good thing for this country. Any time we send money out of the US, it weakens our economy here at home. They should have never gotten the Chicago Skyway, either.

Bush had NOTHING to do with this sale. Congress has no authority to prevent it.

If you wanna blame someone, blame the Commitee on Foreign Investments who approved the deal. Bush has NO power to approve or deny such a sale. He only has power to veto if Congress starts to meddle in affairs that are OUTSIDE their authority.

Also, the people claiming congress has the votes to over ride a veto, are wrong.
