Since you're all clueless heres some info about the port issue:
The Coast Guard and Homeland Security are required by federal law to run security at our ports. That will not change. Nor will ANYTHING change except that now a new corporation will be in charge of administration.
The company that runs those ports now is a UK based one, and was recently purchased by the Dubai interest. Why hold them to a different standard than the UK? It's nonsense. Congress has NO business whatsoever interfering with the sale. They have no oversight authority for business dealings made between two foreign nations, and Bush would be absolutely correct in slamming a veto on any effort to do so. Anyone who claims this is a security threat is a fucking dipshit, no offense. Thank you, please come again. |

Why do poor people blindly defend Bush like fundamentalist christians defend Pat Robertson ?
|
Since the sale wasn't his idea, and he had nothing to do with it; I don't see how this is defending Bush at all.
Why do people blindy assume he's always on the wrong side of any issue when most of the time they are COMPLETELY ignorant of what the issue even entails? |
|
if bush were against this, the dems would be calling him a racist.
|
Let me restate this for those with reading comprehension problems:
Coast Guard and DHS = run security Dubai Ports World = schedule arrivals and departures The stupidity of people amazes me. |

Exactly.... |
I didn't say this was a Dubya idea. I'm just usually surprised why so many poor people will defend almost anything the current administration wants to do, just because they label themselves "republican." So much blind faith in an administration that isn't really going to benefit them much.
|
I'm sure Dan Rather has a memo somewhere that proves President Bush is making money on the deal.
If not, Michael Moore will edit a movie together that shows the proof of the evil capitalism to a million democrats for just $6.50. |
Well I'm not poor, and this has nothing to do with who I voted for. I don't think congress has ANY right to meddle in this, and am pretty certain that doing so would be outside the bounds of legality r.e. the legislative branchs authority.
Also, this isn't something "the current administration has done". It's a business dealing between two companies from two foreign nations. It boggles my mind why this is even an issue. Only a complete simpleton would think that we'd hand the security of our PORTS over to another country. It's just partisan spin, and a few witless republicans. |
Here's another idiot for you to add to your list. Senate Republican leader, Bill Frist.
"I'm not against foreign ownership," said Frist, "but my main concern is national security." |

It's the part of the Presidents job to veto anything that Congress does that goes outside their constitutional mandate.
That's why he HAS the veto power. |
American security is a farce.
Well as far as I've encountered when flying in and out. A few months after 9/11 I was pulled out of a checking in line at JFK. They went through my bags with a fine tooth comb and detectors. I nearly missed my flight but this was of little concern to them. The three Muslim students in front of me were not pulled out of the line. When I pointed this out and told them that a middle age business man was very unlikely to be a terrorist and Arab looking were. The security official said I was being racist and did not understand the situation. Also the last time a person on the check out asked you the security questions, were they looking into your eyes or finishing off booking you in? They spew out the same script 1,000 times a day and expect someone to say yes I have a bomb in my case. |
Quote:
I couldn?t care less about the security aspect of it. It probably is a "safe" thing to do. I don?t like the idea of the son of a bitch selling our country (and our jobs) out to foreign companies. Yes, I know, we have already sold alot out. Well, that?s no reason to keep going, now is it? Between Bush wanting to sell the ports and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels wanting to sell The Indiana Toll Road to a Spain/Australian (or whatever country they are from, it doesn?t matter) company, I don?t know if there is any hope for this country as anything other than a nation controlled by, subsidized by and owned by foreign interests. |
Quote:
Those ports have been ran by P&O, a UK based company for YEARS. There will be still be AMERICAN unionized employees working those docks. HAHA, what do you think? 4000 guys in turbans unloading container ships in Miami? :1orglaugh :1orglaugh Research before you run your gob. |
Daniels has proposed entering a long-term lease with a private Spanish-Australian consortium (who also operates the Chicago Skyway) to run the Indiana Toll Road. He says the 3 billion or more he hopes a private company would pay for a 50-year or longer lease is the only way to pay for many needed road projects in the state.
It makes perfect sense to me, and I live in Indiana. |
Quote:
This is clearly NOT in the best interest of the US and should be stopped. The president can veto a bill and congress can override the veto. On this one there are prolly enough votes. BTW, many of your sites are banned in the UAE. They are not in Britain. A couple of other points. The government in the UAE actually is involved in ownership of the company involved. Other agencies being responsible for security isn't even an argument worth having. There are just to many opportunities for foul play when in charge of port operations. |
Quote:
The toll-road was built with Indiana taxpayer money and bonds. Tolls were used to pay those bonds, and now that the toll-road is making progress at paying those bonds, this jackass wants to sell it off to a foreign company. Its a short term fix to a long term problem. When the $3 billion is gone, the state will still be broke and the mismanagement will still continue. The problem is the reckless manner in which Indiana (and Michigan, too) spend money and run up huge bills on projects that they have no idea how to pay for. Only a complete moron would view this type of situation as a good thing for this country. Any time we send money out of the US, it weakens our economy here at home. They should have never gotten the Chicago Skyway, either. |
Quote:
Then give examples. Its a ludicrous argument. All I see is a bunch of nonsensical conspiracy nonsense. Dude, 911 was to a large degree put together in Germany. Do we boycott them too? :1orglaugh Bush had NOTHING to do with this sale. Congress has no authority to prevent it. If you wanna blame someone, blame the Commitee on Foreign Investments who approved the deal. Bush has NO power to approve or deny such a sale. He only has power to veto if Congress starts to meddle in affairs that are OUTSIDE their authority. Also, the people claiming congress has the votes to over ride a veto, are wrong. |
Looks like it's payback time for getting the US public to hate arabs. :)

When you are able to distinguish the difference between a LEASE and a SALE then you'll have some credibility. And you should read this, it casts this whole road issue in a very favorable light. http://www.tollroadforsale.com/day2sky.php |

HOW ABOUT THE BIGGER QUESTION...
WHY THE FUCK ARE WE OUTSOURCING THE MANAGEMENT OF OUR PORTS IN THE FUCKING FIRST PLACE???? This is just plain fucking stupid! When the government of the United States is not 'buying American', what do they expect the citizens to do? Why are we NOT employing Americans to do this job? What losers is allowing this kinda shit to happen and not give a damn? If you think this is OK, you should be shot for treason! |

CNN is gay. ...And on a BAD day I have more fucking intelligence in a pimple on my ass than you do in your whole body, Chadly. It's simply about having an education, and taking the time to be actually versed in what goes on in my country r.e. specific issues. Neither of which you'd know anything about. |

P.S. Knowing about port issues has zilch to do with intelligence. If current affairs define how smart you are the fox news crew is brilliant.

Acquired ITO; multiport stevedore/terminal operator, June 1999.
Acquired Gulf Services, May 2000. November 2000, entered into joint venture (PNCT) with P&O Nedlloyd in Port of New York and New Jersey with terminal capacity of 1M TEUs. While the Baltimore contract didnt actually BEGIN until early '01, rest assured it had been in the works for years. |

Actually if you look at the history of Dubai Ports World (and I have), you'd see that they'll prolly do a MUCH better job than P&O. |

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh I wish the Arabian students overheard you, waited until your flight landed and whipped your middle-aged ass ... or the security guy put you through a full body cavity search for acting like such an ignorant fool. Btw, do you know that of the terrorist attacks inside the US in the last 15 years how many were by "Arabians" (or middle eastern)? One. By "middle aged" Americans? Two. I wish the Arabians or security people would have pointed this out to you, would have made for a Kodak moment :) |

This is exactly why I used the word "clueless" in the title of this thread. 93: wtc bombing by Yousefs people. 95: Oklahoma city, McVeigh. 01: wtc again. Edit: My point is that alot of the people arguing so vehemently about how evil and moronic the Bush administration is, don't even have a rudimentary grasp of recent HISTORY much less geopolitics. |

Yea and who's more likely to allow a bribed shipment container to enter the port with a dirty bomb.. A company ran by British owners or one owned by a Middle Eastern country.. Don't be dumb. |
Quote:
Do you honestly think that the UAE is going to ship over tens of thousands of Arabs to take over day to day management of the ports? Oh wait, it will be the same union port workers and they will have exactly the same chances of being bribed. Follow your own advice. |
