Canon announcement of 30D is pretty lackluster.
Looks like Nikon has an upper hand with the D200 for a little more market share (at least get some back from the 20D market).
http://photo.net/equipment/canon/30D/ Canon have finally ended the suspense and rumors by announcing today their new "prosumer" DSLR, the Canon EOS 3XD. As widely rumored it has an APS-C format ("1.6 multiplier") CMOS sensor but the rumor of a 10MP sensor unfortunately turned out to be inaccurate. The EOS 30D retains the same 8.2 sensor as the EOS 20D. The EOS 30D is expected to ship in March at a price of $1400 Here's a short list of the major features: 8.2MP CMOS sensor APS-C format (1.6x multiplier, 22.5 x 15mm) 2.5", 230,000 pixel LCD display (same as EOS 5D) 5 frames/sec continuous shooting with optional 3 fps mode Buffer for 30 JPEGs or 11 RAW images Flash Sync at 1/250s Picture Style modes (same as EOS 5D) ISO 100-1600 in 1/3 EV steps, plus ISO 3200 Luminance and RGB histogram displays ISO visible in viewfinder while being changed 3.5% spot metering Improved AF performance Compatible with BG-E2 vertical grip (same as EOS 20D) Availabilty March 2006 Estimated street price $1400 |
LOVE my D200:thumbsup

It's still a hot camera even if it's not a huge hit

Looks sweet to me. A further refinement to a great camera. People worry too much about megapixes. 8MP is more than enough for most purposes.
I have a Nikon D200 and it is sweet but envy the low noise of the 20D. |
Exciting features to expect. I think this 8.2MP CMOS is good enough for me. :thumbsup

Save your money and get a cheaper 20D. It's the same camera for all intensive purposes.

This inspired me to download the pics from the 5D and to be honest I cannot really tell the difference in quality from the 20D. The only reason to go with the 5D would be to do large format?

The 5D has less magnification, so your lenses have a wider field of view. Depends what you already own or what your needs are. Sports shooters would prefer the 20D. Landscape would like the 5D. It's not really "large format"...thats another monster.
That lens is good for portraits...not really as big as it looks. It's an L series and expensive, though good. |
I was reading the 30 d 's shutter is good for over 100,000 clicks.

Its like a 350D in a 5D body LOL.
|
the 20D is better...
|
nikon,'s ok, but there are better ones

I've put almost twice that on my 20D and have yet to have any problems with it. |

i gave up on nikon when they couldnt get anything affordable or comparable to what canon was doing - nikon is still catching up in my opinion - canon is only refining what they have with this new model - and....anyone who cant see the difference between 20D and 5D should get glasses - it's a big jump.

Canon has done the same thing a few times in the video camera line. What everyone thought was going to be a big upgrade announcement was nothing more than a little bump (XL1S to XL2).
Then they are all quiet, and suddenly a huge improvement comes along: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...ode lid=12152 They are truly a strange company at times. Alex |
