*WARNING* DO NOT host with Yahoo

I moved 15 of my mainstream sites to Yahoo hosting for an SEO experiment I was trying.

One of the sites has been completely shut down (403 forbidden) for almost a full week and all I get from support is:

"We have no idea why your site is down and we have asked an engineer to look into it but there is no ETA for getting it back up and you can't speak to anyone else"

This has been going on for almost a week and still no resolution or answer as to why my site and FTP is down. The worst part is that there is data I can't get until I get into the FTP account.

I have over 1000 websites on various hosts and my own dedicated servers and I have NEVER dealt with issues like this.

I just wanted to put out this warning to everyone thinking about trying them out.

Time to move it all to Nat Net and Mojo, I can count on them to be reliable and fast.

Good to know.

milkit 02-21-2006 11:32 AM

duh.....?

BluMedia 02-21-2006 11:34 AM

Yahoo is run by a bunch of fucking monkeys. Their support is the worst I have ever seen. I even charged back over 3k with them and it wasn't even a problem because they didn't even respond to the credit card company so I automatically got the money credited back. I wouldn't use them for anything ever even if they paid me 1k a month to host there.

Would the sites have been adult in nature? Could that maybe go against a policy or something?

Brad Gosse 02-21-2006 11:38 AM

Well since they won't refund my hosting costs CB may be an option. I hate charging back on anyone but in this case i won't lose any sleep.

Some of you may think it was stupid to put some mainstream sites there but I wanted to try out some sites on their IP block.

For a company that used to dominate search they are doing a bad job trying to beat google to the hosting game.

Poor service is a killer, they could have made me a happy client if they just fixed this issue quickly.

Clients don't judge you on your problems they judge you on how you handle the solutions.

SmokeyTheBear 02-21-2006 12:02 PM

this thread is totally unfair..

not to mention their shitty registrar service is much wors than the shitty hosting

asdfqwer 02-21-2006 01:01 PM

Not only all this, but your site will be hosted with about 40,000 others on the same box and same IP.

Pornwolf 02-21-2006 01:25 PM

Stick to the "porn" hosts. I have found that most of the hosts that cater to our industry are much better than mainstream hosts. Unless you are doing $10,000 a month or more.

There is so much truth to this statement it isn't even funny. We were with a mainstream host for our adult sites back in the day. They seemed to think it was completly normal to perform maintance every fucking week for a couple hours and bring the entire network down. One time we were down for almost 24 hours. That is when I said fuck it and when to a real host, MojoHost. Alot of these mainstream hosts seem to think this is ok and normal to do this weekly or even daily maintance.

Thanks for the warning, but in nearly 8 years now I have never had the least bit of interest in hosting with Yahoo.

chaze 02-22-2006 02:16 AM

We get more new clients from Yahoo then any other host. It's great business for us but I always feel bad for the customer who loses business before they realize it's time to move. they also encode there site builder so you will stay with them and make switching their dns like getting your teeth pulled. Shady business in my book but I am sure some people here will say it's just smart. Me, I only do business with people I can trust if it will effect business. i think a good busines will even help you move if you want to try another service, we do this and in most cases they come back and stay for life.

Ecchi22 02-22-2006 02:25 AM

Don't buy their domain names. They will charge you for every fucking service requested!!! For example dns change!!!

chadglni 02-22-2006 02:31 AM

They stole my domain with a dead login. lol

bobby666 02-22-2006 05:22 AM

i have just one 2,95$ yahoodomain registered but was well surprised that domainforwarding (fullframed) is for free - i usualy had to pay extra charge for it

Thank you for the props! I think I can speak for both companies when I say your business is truly appreciated and any time you want to bring more, we'd love it!

Cheers,

Brad
