Ever mourned when someone you've never met dies?
 

I just got sad news. I joined a mailing list 11 years ago now, and this one particular fellow was always a source of great wit and amusement. I just found out today that he died, and this was confirmed by his wife. I never met the man, but after 11 years of reading his posts and enjoying conversation, I feel like I've lost a good friend. It almost feels strange to mourn for someone I never met, but at the same time, it seems right, too.

Have you ever been truly touched by someone who's face you've never seen?

Yes I have mourned when someone that is close to me has had someone they care about pass away. It's just hurtful when someone you care about is in pain. Also, when I was younger a friend of mine brother committed suicide and I remember crying so much and not even knowing why because I had never met her brother. It's not exactly the same as your situation but I can relate. It's just about being human and caring about people in general that makes us mourn them passing I think.

yea its a sad thing espically funerals never want to go to those

Laugh at me all you want but when I heard wrestler Eddie Guerrero died recently I tuned into the show the day after. All the wrestlers were on the ramp crying and they had a moment of silence and it choked me up.

Love wrestling or hate it, Eddie was the type of guy you just had to like and respect. To see his friends and family - even the "macho" wrestler-types - totally losing it - was powerful.

Yup, I cried a tear when Ronald Reagan died.

yup. i mourned a lot of times when i hear someone dies even though i haven't met that someone... i don't know, perhaps its the soft spot in me, something i have inherited from my mom

I cried when Frank Sinatra died.

I cried when I watched all the people in the World Trade Center die.

Yeah I cried that day too.

It is really sad to know that someone you really admire died and you weren't able to meet him atleast once.
