APIC is threatening ME!?

They send me urls of galleries that AP banners are on and say the images are owned by a list of copyright holders, when I ask for for at least one specific image owned by one specific copyright, so we can contact the webmaster, they give me this shit:

Quote:

How about these????

Or how about you deal directly with their attorneys???

You're suppose to be some bigshot out there aren't you?

How about I make this stupid charade public??
And send the same list of galleries

So guess what? I made this stupid charade public

ServerGenius 04-22-2002 06:01 PM

HAHAHA Way to go Lens! Fucking lame email that they send you btw!

Kimmykim 04-22-2002 06:04 PM

What do the thieves having your banners on their pages have to do with anything?

Of course I guess a case could be made for DMCA that since you are the one processing their traffic, you are liable...

Never really thought about it that way tho.

[Labret] 04-22-2002 06:06 PM

APIC are little bitches.

Because you're not letting them prove to the world that they're forcing you to help them.

Lensman, I'am pretty tight with everyone at APIC, if you need a hand getting in touch with them or anything else, give me a call, I'll bail you out...:) There really not so bad if you know them.

Lensman, I don't want to talk anymore about apic here, so if you need any assistance, you know where to find me.:winkwink:

LoveAsianChicks 04-22-2002 06:24 PM

APIC sounds like a bunch of faggots.
If they claim your ads on a page with copyright material they should provide you with the info you requested.

Tell them to provide you with straight answers or FUCK OFF!
How dare they dick around when you reply.

pr0 04-22-2002 06:26 PM

they sound like abunch of lawyers trying to make a buck

god bless america

Lensman 04-22-2002 06:28 PM

APIC! This is all we want.

URL of alleged stolen image:
URL of page where image appears with AmateurPages banner:

NAME of copyright holder:
URL of copyright holder image page (if applicable):

Then we will notify the affiliate to produce a license or remove the images or they will be terminated from the program without payment.

Is that too difficult?

vidsweb 04-22-2002 06:32 PM

Tell them to act professional.

Why are they being so confrontational?

Dumbasses have obviously not learned how to work with other humans.

12clicks 04-22-2002 06:55 PM

I recieved a similar email from some lawyer joker just this morning. I politely told them to we didn't own the site and had no control over the content. I then told them to hire someone with an understanding of the internet so as not to look like an ass in the future.

they thanked me for my prompt reply. :)

hehe, the threatening to go public with you is SOOOOOOOO funny.
why can't I get someone that stupid anymore?

I don't like the way they're handling this, but really I think the burden has to be on the person USING the pictures. Lens should tell APIC "I'll withhold payment until this is settled." That should get the guy off his ass, and then once the guy realizes his $ is at stake, he'll shit in his pants and either produce his license or take the gallery down.

Actually, I think it is.

All you really need is the URL of the page and a typical photo (assuming it's a set). Then ask your affiliate to FAX a copy of his license to APIC and you. You don't really need to know the actual copyright holder's name, since your affiliate should already have that, if he's legal.

Bullshit. You couldn't have your employer withhold your salary from you at your job just because some third party complains that you're wearing his stolen shoes. Withholding your pay for a third party takes a court order.

Sorry for the bad analogy, but holding payment because of some random third party complaint, without proof, is bullshit.

If they have proof that this person is stealing content, then I'm all for cancelling the account and kicking some ass.

Think about it: If using stolen images is against the program's rules, then if Lens has already paid out, what's he supposed to do: go hat in hand and beg for his money back, as you seem to want him to do?

This way, the money isn't lost if the photos are legal, and how fucking long does it take to send a FAX, anyway?

An agency who provides a service for content providers is a good idea. APIC is not that good service.

This is not the only situation that they handle bad. They have used the same tactics for numerous years. Good guys ? More like a vigilante.

I bet they don't care if Lensman is straight-up or not. They are likely more pissed off that Lensman won't just do what they say and terminate everyone they finger. Shoot First, Question later.
