Affiliates with typo domain names

Lets say one of your affiliates, has your exact domain name but with a common typo - (for example making it plural instead of singular or vice versa). He then redirects it to your paysite with his affiliate code.

Lets pretend, he makes thousands of dollars in a year from this typo...

Would you be upset or would you be thankful? Is this fair game? If so, im on a domian buying spree!

I just noticed one of my affiliates doing this. I wish i would have done it myself, but atleast its generating sales and making us both money.

Fair game. You should buy X amount of domains for every 1 domain you purchase and drive traffic to.

Most programs have no problem with it. They can however sue you if they wanted to but they most likely wont. Best thing to do is ask one of the sales reps over icq or whatnot and that should be enough to fall back on.

I have several of these and nobody's ever complained. Now taking a misspell or similar domain and tossing it at another program's site...that's different.

i have done it with no probs as long as you both make money

I know people who do this as a living. As long as they're sending the traffic to you, you should be happy. Otherwise plan on spending hundreds of dollars everytime you launch a new site just for the typos.

Fair game. Learn to register all your domain variations if you don't wanna pay other people for the traffic. I've learned the hard way.

I definetely feel it's fair game unless they are redirecting to another program. RoundandBrowns.com better not be redirecting to Pimp Roll or some shit.

u-Bob 02-21-2006 06:16 AM

it's fair game.

KRL 02-21-2006 06:19 AM

I've only seen one company peeved about it. Most don't give a toot as long as they get the traffic.

I think that winner takes all plain and simple. If the person was smart enough to come up with it, why should you take it away?

You should be proud of his intelligence at doing it and try to reward him for it. Smart affiliates are goldmines

So would you all feel the same if it wasn't necessarily a typo but the .net, .org. co.uk, .info etc of the exact domain name??

I see it all over the place and I am curious?

Antonio 02-21-2006 07:49 AM

I have one such domain, it doesn't make me thousands a day but it makes 2-3 sales a month, which still gives me about $1000.00 annual profit ;)

Theo 02-21-2006 07:52 AM

not at all, but its rare case cause we get all typos upfornt ;-)
