Does GUBA provide **ALL** newsgroups? Including MP3, WAREZ and CP??
do they also give access to the massive MP3 and WAREZ newsgroups? And the newsgroups containing illegal content like child pornography, rape or beastiality?
inquiring minds want to know... |
Take a wild guess.
|
Good question.
|
No, I do believe they filter it. Which, of course, is even worse - it means they select content from newsgroups and provide that in exchange for money.
|
http://www.guba.com/video/General/ here you can search yourself
|
Once you start filtering content, you become responsible for what you list. I am really wondering if the Guba people spent any time in a room with a copyright lawyer before building their business model.

their list contains several groups that used to have CP in the past. or still have. |
Somebody's got to speak up for GUBA, since there seems to be a lot of hatred and misunderstanding going on. I guess I'm a good somebody to speak up, since GUBA sends me a huge check every two weeks.
Long story short: Don't believe all these folks who slam GUBA. The "stolen content" rap is total bullshit; in the niches I promote, the *vast* majority of the content in the newsgroups is actually put there by the content owners to drive traffic to their websites. Remember, GUBA is just a friendly interface to the paleolithic part of the internet. Usenet newsgroups, the uncensorable built-to-survive-nuclear-war part. GUBA sells no content and thus is in no position to steal any. It's just an easy way to get at the newsgroups for folks who aren't techie wizards. I've had dinner with GUBA's head lawyer, and I'll tell you what: they have the legal shit covered. There's nothing illegal in what they are doing; if there were, some of the rich loudmouths here on GFY would have already sued them back to the stone age. Now for the good part: As an affiliate, GUBA is simply awesome to deal with. GUBA has been very very good to me. Their recurring billings are particularly sweet -- they recur at much higher percentages than anything else I've ever promoted. As for service, they are always johnny-on-the-spot for me by email or phone whenever I have a question or issue. Quality folks to deal with, great conversions, and the best rebills I've ever encountered. What's not to like? My advice: Ignore the haters, and give GUBA a try. |
Forkbeard, I wouldn't give Guba a try in a month of Sundays. It doesn't matter who puts the content on the net, without permission to resell the content, you cannot repackage it and resell it. Otherwise, I would be able to lift images from the usenet, setup a paysite, and say "using high quality usenet images".
No doubt their lawyers have found a legal "pin head" to sit on, and they ain't moving. It is most likely the "send us a DMCA and we will remove offending content" which is a real bullshit way to do things. Say what you will, but encouraging the trading in usenet content is just encouraging people NOT to buy into paysites. Alex |
Ok, speaking as a content producer, I see my members area pics posted to the newsgroups frequently, and I KNOW I didn't "put them there myself".
Also, if GUBA is converting our videos into new mp4 formats, I think that is FLAT OUT STEALING FROM US so, um, yeah.... fuck GUBA. Work for your money like the rest of us! Steve Lightspeed |
Uh oh, now this is actual drama.
|
people go to newsgroups for free shit. lumping programs into this "you guys put your own content" in there is false. you can download un-drmed content. full length scenes from almost any popular site out there. if you never wanted to join a paysite again as a surfer, and knew a little bit about what you are doing, you sign up to a news service, get yourself a reader. learn how to par and rar and shit, and you can have the entire site portfolios for many many huge programs. i see so much bang bros shit out there it will make your head spin. full, uncut scenes in the highest quality. bangbros is not uploading their full length scenes undrmed just to be nice. the members are buying trials, leeching the sites and uploading the shit for other people. now, uploading clips drm'd with law windows is alot different. see p2p ads etc. that makes sense. name me one program owner that is uploading their full length un drmed videos?

Great post Alex, I couldn't have said it better myself...I have been chasing copyright thieves for the last fives years in this biz (yes I am a lawyer also) so I can vouch for how frustrating it is to deal with this. Matt |

nearly every active newsgroup has a few regular poster that take care that there is always enough to see. and you can clearly see the difference between those who try to promote something using 20 low res pics and those, who post full sets in high quality. it's bullshit to believe that all that stuff is just put up there for promotion :error |
GUBA is not a primary producer of Usenet content and is therefore exempt from the provisions of 18 U.S.C. hahaha167;2257

looks like skiinnning this board really turned around and bit GRUBA in the ass.
lollolol |
I dont get what the big deal is, if GUBA existed or not all the the content in question would still be on the newsgroup.
From what I can see, GUBA isnt doing anything revolutionaly or new, same old shit. |

As I said here: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=578212 Regardless of the content in question, without GUBA the newsgroups would basicly be an unknown for the vast majority of typical internet users. Thanks to GUBA a large chunk of everyday users who would not know a newsgroup reader if it jumped out of the screen and wacked them off are being exposed to it and educated about not having to join sites. |

Newsgroups are wastelands now of span, illegal content and gods-knows-what-else. So claiming a program has "opened people's eyes" doesn't work here ... you could say that Internet Explorer should be thanked for allowing millions to find porn sites (just an example!). But whatever your opinion, you can't possible claim that GUBA is doing a public service - as if they only exist to "enlighten the public". I'd love to see someone representing them argue this in court - it would be the laugh of the day! |

My point was that most do not know of newsgroups. This program is exposing the users to newsgroups by using an affiliate model. This type of exposure is only going to harm the industry and not help it. |

I think many of you miss the point. The question is not whether GUBA and other newsgroups should be posting stole content, clearly the answer is no.
The real issue is should adult webmasters promote Guba's affiate program? Obviously, Guba bought this GFY skin in hopes that our peeps would be stupid enough to promote them. Any promotion of Guba absolutely hurts the industry that feeds us. The nerve of these guys to come to GFY of all places to seek new webmasters is what should have everyone who makes a living promoting adult web sites angry. Guba is a real and legitimate threat to our livelihood and if you promote them, you are taking food off of our kids' table. Matt |
