Jasmin.com was formerly a site acquired in 2000, as an e-commerce site selling 300 of the world's most prestigious fragrance brands.

dissipate 02-20-2006 10:55 PM

thats just rediculous

I don't think its been resold since Andy sold it for $2.75 Million about a year and a half ago.

It was making $40K a month when it was sold.

GTS Mark 02-20-2006 11:46 PM

Wow simply incredible what some of these domains are going for, I guess the value is in the eye of the beholder :)

hmm i am all for the domain market kicking arse, but come on there is a limit. is there soemthing i am missing about this domain?!?!?

if lkjlsdjf431234.com sold for $20 mil with no traffic, would there still be people saying "well that is the market, sounds reasonable" etc... or would these people finally admit that a domain was overpriced... what would it take?!?!

DatingGold 02-21-2006 12:55 AM

I dont see where you can bid on domains on snapnames... help!

you have to put in for a snap (dropping domain), then you can go bid / be in the auction.

I have only used snap 2 times, but pool works good too.

Don't get frustrated, these are the same people that said "ridiculous" when thousands of premium domains where available for $100 a year :1orglaugh

xclusive 02-21-2006 01:15 AM

Many large domain sales $50K and up are between private investors and those usually don't get any press.

Trax 02-21-2006 01:20 AM

isnt there a medical product called jasmin?

Are you trying to compare these two domains in any way??? Come on.

The domain name biz is on fire...:thumbsup

*edit, I mean there is no money in domain name sales.

Jasmin has become the de-facto standard assembly format for Java. It's used in dozens of compiler classes throughout the world, and has been ported and cloned multiple times. For better or worse, Jasmin remains the original Java assembler.

:winkwink:

And also Jasmin is a major recording star and actress in Iran. So it could be planned for that also.

Trax 02-21-2006 01:41 AM

I confused it with http://www.yasmin.com/ sorry lol

polish_aristocrat 02-21-2006 06:59 AM

theres a big site cam site i think livejasmin.com but i dont think this domain was bought with that in mind

Drake 02-21-2006 07:08 AM

I think that's great. What kind of commission does snapnames get from such sales? I remember when you could just backorder a domain from them and there wasn't any auction. If the domain became free, it was yours for a minimal fee.

PicBar 02-21-2006 07:27 AM

I remember that. Talk about the good old days!

The only problem was you had to be the very first person to place the backorder for the domain or else you had no chance.

JFK 02-21-2006 08:00 AM

Wonder who bought it ?

GeorgeK 02-21-2006 08:43 AM

High bidder used an alias of "webpower". It might be iFriends buying it to grab traffic intended for livejasmin.com

Good point. webpower would more than likely be Ifriends.com

Yeah, there's a lot of money in domains named after Iranian singers ...
Java compilers ...
:1orglaugh

I'd go with the fragrance angle, personally, to explain the price

Kiwigirl 02-21-2006 09:15 AM

wow, thats some crazy cash to spend on a domain name.

jasmin.com has only 994 overture though

is that kind of traffic worth $300k to them?

EroticySteve 02-21-2006 09:41 AM

The domain market is ridiculous. A good business is so much more than a good domain. Look at all of the fabulous internet companies who have branded themselves with uncommon names.

eBay
Google
Yahoo
GoDaddy
......The list goes on and on.

uno 02-21-2006 11:22 AM

God damn I need to get back to doing some domaining. With a recent sale and brokering a few others...

CybermedAndy 02-21-2006 11:50 AM

I don't understand that domain going for that much.

A1.com sold on there for what I believe was around $50k last month, would take that one anyday over jasmin.com

JMP25 03-06-2006 02:44 AM

www.jasmin.com

Ohhh :):pimp

DatingGold 03-06-2006 03:26 AM
