|
ok.. might as well post these blog newb questions here, i have no shame... im adding a mainstram blog to my mainstream site (go figure!), and im wondering is it ok if i use a presetup thing like blogger.com, or should i get wordpress? do these RSS programs you guys posted here, will they work for blogger.com hosted blogs?
what are the pros/cons hosted blogs vs. your own blogs.. does it matter? why? |

I say, setup wordpress, it's very easy and can expand way past blogger.com, with a bit of research you will find many usefull tools and tips for better SE placement using while wordpress. And it's yours, nobody can shut it down. |

If you look around you can find MANY styles, some will do short posts, include the full post, include only the title, even ones that will take sections out of other peoples and make it look like a quote in your blog with a link back. Lots of options for syndication plugins for blogs. |
It works :) I had to change the description parser part for spunky feeds. All i did was change the 1 to a 0 but if you know anything about php you can get this to work in allot of differant ways.
Troy from nubiles.net put together the second script there. TheDoc, you have better php scripts, I would like to use them show me! ;) |
The best way is to use Magpie(link above) and import sponsor rss feeds into your database - then you can play, manipulate, and display the gallery links that get clicked the most or by sponsor etc etc

I have all your standard plugins, meta tags, synd, ad rotators, adword tools, php code in posts, polls, custom login/reg pages, ping tools, editors, and a couple others. Depending on the site I mix in more advanced search features, meta tools, comment tools and so on. My wordpress scripts are custom, uses a mixture of tables and css, very fast to work with. Repacked with my changes and setup for faster installing. I can go from no design to a full open site with a fresh non-standard wp layout, in less than an hour, all plugins, 100% ready for release minus content of course. |
im looking to set up my blog the same way engadget.com is, 95% syndicated from other sources, yet other ppl are able to syndicate engadget's blog.

SpookyCash has an affiliate blog where affiliate get paid on all upsells for incorporating the feed on their sites :)
|
Im sorry to take this post in a more serious direction, but let the hijack begin.
By using all these tools to create what can easily be viewed as splogs, don't we run into the same problem as people setting up tons of TGP sites using the same feeds as everyone else. I don't see any lasting value unless when you aggregate the feed to your site, you're adding value somehow. |

I think the value is having the links auto update and avalible to be clicked by the surfers :winkwink: |
RSS2Blog works like a charm.
|
There are EFFECTIVE ways to do this--avoiding the splog label and providing a CONTENT RICH experience to your visitors. If anyone has mainstream projects, let me know. We can hook you up.... for CHEAP :thumbsup
