Psuedo serious thread: Does porn decrease the desire for the real thing?

This was the counter argument used by the people arguing with the "porn makes rapists" nonsense spewed by the feminazis during the 80's.

Just curious what people think.

And I mean from a surfers perspective...

xato 02-20-2006 09:27 AM

i think theres a little truth in it.

The Duck 02-20-2006 09:27 AM

yeah, at least if your girl isnt as hot as the pornchicks

Interesting read. This part sticks out to me:

Quote:

...pornography did breach the dike that separated a marginal, adult, private pursuit from the mainstream public arena. The whole world, post-Internet, did become pornographized. Young men and women are indeed being taught what sex is, how it looks, what its etiquette and expectations are, by pornographic training--and this is having a huge effect on how they interact.

But the effect is not making men into raving beasts. On the contrary: The onslaught of porn is responsible for deadening male libido in relation to real women, and leading men to see fewer and fewer women as "porn-worthy." Far from having to fend off porn-crazed young men, young women are worrying that as mere flesh and blood, they can scarcely get, let alone hold, their attention.

Here is what young women tell me on college campuses when the subject comes up: They can't compete, and they know it. For how can a real woman--with pores and her own breasts and even sexual needs of her own (let alone with speech that goes beyond "More, more, you big stud!")--possibly compete with a cybervision of perfection, downloadable and extinguishable at will, who comes, so to speak, utterly submissive and tailored to the consumer's least specification?

trashymedia 02-20-2006 09:33 AM

Hmmm

Yeah I can see some validity in that. I mean porn is getting more "sophisticated" meaning more and more things are being explored onscreen rather than in the bedroom. We all may remember when we watched our first On TV or Select TV porn video (way back in the day), even if our parents didn't pay for the adult channels, you could still see something if you watched the wavy screen closely enough. That was pretty generic back then, but it caused a sense of titillation. Now if you watched the same video, you would probably be bored, since you can see a big titted blonde getting two cocks shoved up her ass while someone flushes her head in the toilet...

Porn good. Want more.

jimthefiend 02-20-2006 09:35 AM

This makes a lot of sense too:

Quote:

I will never forget a visit I made to Ilana, an old friend who had become an Orthodox Jew in Jerusalem. When I saw her again, she had abandoned her jeans and T-shirts for long skirts and a head scarf. I could not get over it. Ilana has waist-length, wild and curly golden-blonde hair. "Can't I even see your hair?" I asked, trying to find my old friend in there. "No," she demurred quietly. "Only my husband," she said with a calm sexual confidence, "ever gets to see my hair."

When she showed me her little house in a settlement on a hill, and I saw the bedroom, draped in Middle Eastern embroideries, that she shares only with her husband--the kids are not allowed--the sexual intensity in the air was archaic, overwhelming. It was private. It was a feeling of erotic intensity deeper than any I have ever picked up between secular couples in the liberated West. And I thought: Our husbands see naked women all day--in Times Square if not on the Net. Her husband never even sees another woman's hair.

She must feel, I thought, so hot.

For starters, alot of porn bores me.

But the porn that doesn't...

I can see how a huge amount of exposure to it can cause...

I don't know how to word it, but to where the reality might not live up to the illusion created.

That article makes a valid point r.e. desensitization; which if you follow to it's logical conclusion says interesting things about this industry as well.

I.e. Porn is evolving, becoming more "extreme" or whatever, simply because the consumers sexual appetites are "evolving" as well. So are our standards of beauty and "sexy". Example: Jane Mansfield was an ICON in her day, but would be laughed at by a LOT of people in the biz were she to post here now and look for work. :1orglaugh

If you follow what I'm saying you'll see that what we consider "hardcore raunch" right now, will be viewed as tame in 20 years. Look at how things have changed since the 70's.

TheLegacy 02-20-2006 09:46 AM

every man is different whether its porn or visiting strip joints. People would like to think that it can break up a marriage - but when it comes to actually assisting in developing "foreplay" or "desire" in a man no one wants to admit its usefulness or even being able to help teach a man how to properly stimulate a women. It's a question with many answers and no answers.

what porn has taught me is to look into the personality of a woman since looks carry someone so far and are a dime a dozen... not too mention the freedom to try new things in bed

I don't think I can agree with that for obvious reasons.

I can see the validity of that arguement. Taking a subject we have touched on before in conversation, liken it to BDSM terms.

A person might start out being flippy about being blindfolded. Over time, after becoming accustomed to it and having the hunger increase, they may grow to want to wear a hood.

To me, sex is just this vast frontier. Some people could go forever and be happy with NN porn. Others might quickly tire of that and progress to double anal and gagging sites.

Generally speaking though, I think the desire to push the envelope is there.

Ben_MensNiche 02-20-2006 10:01 AM

..........i always thought porn was the real thing, and sex a cheap substitute..:Oh crap

i now fuck like a porn star

Spunky 02-20-2006 10:15 AM

I never would have tried a donkey punch if it wasn't for porn

jimthefiend 02-20-2006 10:17 AM

My wifes ass is bleeding as we speak because of porn.

spanky part 2 02-20-2006 10:30 AM

Fro me personally, porn just doesn't do it for me. It used to be fun back before I started doing this. Now it's just fucking boring.

My wife still wants to watch it once and a while, but funny thing is I don't watch. The roles are totally reversed. I used to love to fuck and watch porn at the same time, and she didn't.

I prefer my wife, with all her flaws, than any porn star.

When the conservatives start spouting that porn is so addictive, I just laugh.
Think about it. It's always priests and people screaming about how christian they are, that are doing the really bad stuff. Maybe they need to watch more porn!

I think it IS addictive, that's part of the point of what I'm trying to argue here. People who become compulsive about things tend to always go after more. That's why it keeps "evolving". The old marijuana leads to heroin argument. :1orglaugh

I think porn has it's place in our sexuality and does not have the ability to replace "real sex" simply because it's a two-dimensional experience. Porn is a feast for the eyes, but a real person brings the senses of touch, taste, & smell as well as their own sexual energy to an encounter. There really is no competition.

Since porn is a one-sided consumer experience, the man never has to actually use his charms to try to get laid. How successful do you think most men would be in getting a continuous stream of "hot porn girls" to fuck them on a regular basis in the real world?

Besides, there aren't enough "hot porn girls" to go around, so most men are content to fuck the "normal" women they meet in their daily lives.

sfera 02-20-2006 11:47 AM

i think it makes some people want it more if you ask me

Pornwolf 02-20-2006 12:04 PM

It has changed a lot of things. Has anyone noticed how much hotter women have been looking, dressing and acting in the digital porn age? Competition is tough.

Nismo 02-20-2006 12:06 PM

Porn killed my father.

And raped my mother.

What about the day when it does become a 3-dimensional experience? When we start tapping into sensations other than sight and sound? It's coming, just a matter of time.
