Airlines lost 10,000 bags a day in 2005

Wow - interesting read:

Wow -- that's like $6million, assuming each of those lost bag travelers filed for the max. claim, which is like $600. But how many sad -- "just trying to go on my pathetic little once-per-year vacation" travelers filed?

Oracle Porn 02-19-2006 10:44 AM

my bag was lost by delta once.

Peaches 02-19-2006 10:46 AM

Southwest lost my baggage twice last year and I only flew twice :Oh crap

I shot Erica Campbell this past summer and the airlines lost her bag that had all her clothes that we were supposed to use for our shoot. She scrambled the night before the shoot to buy new clothes so she'd have something to wear for the shoot. Krazy shit...........

most of the bags were just delayed it says

Has anyone else noticed that all the post-911 security bolstering as airports regards what's IN your bag BEFORE you fly has created a reduction in let's call it "post doggie-sniff at carousel" security. I can't remember the last time anyone matched my bags and tags as I walked out of the airport. I wonder how many "lost" bags are just getting stolen?

minusonebit 02-19-2006 11:03 AM

I also do not remember the last time someone checked my tags, as they are supposed to do. But this really should come as no surprise to anyone. What did people expect when fares went down to $69 round trip and staff was cut by 60% and most of the operating budgets were diverted to security? Heck, they dont even give you the whole can of soda anymore and they wont give you the second bag of peanuts. You're really better off taking Amtrak anymore, service is better and cheaper and you'll have enough legroom to at least move your legs a couple of inches.

Lost for 4 days when your vacation was 3 days long, is as good LOST.

My parents live about an hour from Buffalo so when luggage doesn't arrive when we do when we go home it's a bitch. Well, it happened to my sister and SWA had to come all the way out to East Bumfuck of a town at 330a to drop off her bag to her when they were delayed. But it had me thinking about it ... Places like Buffalo and podunk towns they serve like that and the poor delivery guys who have to run all over dropping off bags in the middle of the night. Sucks, sucks, sucks ...

2HousePlague 02-19-2006 12:24 PM

Yep. The delivery guys are victims, too.

I know, it seems like that stopped back in 1994.

I never trust sites that flat out lie..

http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/peekinbag.html

look at the "example purchase" the total is 150.69 and the amount given is 155.75 , .. cmon now that makes ZERO sense .. why would the person give 155.75 and not 150.75 , i cant think of any bill combo that would end up at 155 that they couldnt have just kept a fiver in their pocket..

never had a bag lost - just misplaced and then brought to my hotel by the airline later in the day

good for you man, there are still people who cares about somebody else's luggage.

Elli 02-20-2006 01:53 AM

Um, I seem to remember in the airline office in vegas airport that they have big signs saying the most you can claim is $200 per bag. That had me thinking. Now *all* my electronics are in carry-on.
