I'm going to confront a chargeback'ing surfer... what would you do?
 

So this scum fuck surfer decided to chargeback a few transactions on my sites after downloading a LOT of content. I've got their home phone# and address .. and I'm prepared to fly 2 hours to visit them in person.

What would you do and how would you handle a confrontation?

The thing is that YOU were the one that somehow figured out his credit card number and charged his credit card because the guy NEVER looks at porn, ask his wife, she'll tell you.

I'd send him an email explaining how badly chargebacks affect your business, how you thought about visiting in person to explain it to him, but how you decided to write a letter instead because you know he probably didn't realize what a serious issue it was. Then tell him to always contact you first before charging back again and be his friend.

Sent a letter with very detailed info on what he downloaded and when (inculde scene names, ip adress, the whole bunch.) Instead of Mr XXX you "accidently" adress it to Mrs XXX. Tell him in the letter one of your employees will come by his house to discuss the matter in order to solve the case in a reasonble way. Make it very clear that you can prove he entered the site and downloaded all the content and unless he can proof his card was stolen (which he obviously can't) or is willing to settle the case you will sue him and press charges for fraud.

Just scare the shit out of him without making your hands dirty.

I usually questions on this site and everyone seems to be helpful. So giving you some advice, dont do it!!!! there are state statutes in place that, once you try to collect a debt that is owed to you, you must do certain things otherwise your our $4,500. Send the bill to a shady collection company and take 20%.

He ain't collecting nothing. He is just making it clear that the surfer knows the concequenses of his charge back.

first i would make sure its not a mistake.. mey not ne your or their mistake.. sometimes its the cc card..

I lost my wallet one time and someone used it at a few places , and they charged back a few things by mistake.

Does the billing name( company name ) on the credit card reflect your business name..

i.e. does it say "web billing" or "iblt enterprises" or "ct inc. " or "pimpin pays"

I would certainly send him a collections letter threatening to add the charges to his credit report and demand cashiers check or money order for reimbursement... and for the hell of it, call the local police in his town and see if you can get some action from them for credit card fraud.

people who do 1 or 2 chargebacks or who refunds I email them, the ones who try to chargeback a bunch of charges I call them and ask them why and then inform them I am selling their account to a collection agency.

and buy a lorry load of fish guts in their name and address
tell them its to fertilize your lawn so to deliver it and just dump it on the front garden, tell them you'll be at work so no need for a signiture as no one is going to steal it :)

I saying it's not worth going over there and possible getting his ass kicked ... if your referring to me saying that i don't think it would be a great idea for someone to just show up to my home where my family lives to threated me ... I think that applies to most people big / small / strong / weak .. most men will defend there home. he doesn't know this guy and it's not worth the risk.

If your asking what makes me think i can handle myself then that's a long post. to keep it short ..i'm a fairly tough guy ..I can handle myself and have on many occasions .. I come from a fairly hard background grew up poor and had a father that did many years in and out of jail (over 7 years of his life).. taught me to take shit from no one and hurt anyone that gets in your way. Once your taught to put fear aside at any cost and protect yourself that stays with you.

since I got married 8 years ago and had kids ..I've lived a very straight life and even wrote off my farther because of is continuous involvement in crime. In fact the last time i saw him was about 1 1/2 ago when i picked him up from serving 1 year for a felony ... brought him to probation and gave him some cash to get on his feet ... a week after that he called looking for some "start up money" and told me he missed probation ... I changed my # and haven't heard back .. I wish him luck but i can't be around that shit ..I run a honest biz and have a family to worry about ...

My point being that you wouldn't know that about me based on a credit card purchase ... he'd show up at my house and enter a bad situation ... it's basic instinct to protect your family and home.

It happens all the time in this business. About the best thing you can do, and what I do, is block his IP's, credit cards, and all that jazz so he can never sign up for anything you own again. Obviously you had somethiing of interest to this joker, so he might try this shit in another year when you have more content.

Just block everything about him so he can't do anything, and when/if he contacts you (which has happened from time to time) THEN you hit him with the drama.
