The Oscars for 2006, looks like a good fight is brewin'!

The tension is high here in Hollywood! I thought this year's Oscars were going to be boring but the heat has really picked up.

Brokeback Mountain has the most nominations but Crash is close behind. Best Actor looks like a fight and Best Actress too.

I'm rooting for Reese Witherspoon and me and the boys will be in town with some rope iffin' she don't win.

Any guesses at what's gonna happen?

The only thing I'm certain of is that Phillip Seymour-Hoffman will win best actor.

The Oscars would have been cooler if "King Kong" got nominated for Best Picture and Peter Jackson for Best Director. But Hollywood doesn't reward movies that 'underperform' from overhyped expectations, even though "King Kong" has made $550 Million worldwide. Wouldn't we all love to 'underperform' at $550 Million and make a whopping profit?

I'd like to see wins go to Munich and Syriana. Two of the best films this yeat IMO. I think Crash was overrated. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, but I have a feeling it is going to win too many awards.

Knock on wood for Munich.

Brokeback Moutain: Overrated!

reynold 02-20-2006 01:39 AM

i guess everyone is excited, or shall i say anticipating, for the Academy Awards Night

reed_4 02-20-2006 03:35 AM

whatever would be the result of the Oscars, I'm sure all the movies deserves the nominations.

I'm really surprised at how fierce things are getting. I'll be going to see Capote this week. Word is Hoffman's performance is outstanding. It's really an intense competition this year. More than I had expected.

scoreman 02-20-2006 08:34 AM

Current odds on winning best picture:
Brokeback mountain 1/10 (put up $1000 to win $100)
Crash 1/1 (bet 100 win 100)
Capote 20/1
Good night and Good Luck 10/1
Munich 8/1

The Duck 02-20-2006 08:34 AM

When is it due?

jjjay 02-20-2006 08:35 AM

I'm sick of hearing about brokeback

no plans to see it, don't care about gay cowboys

so rooting for anything to win but that

jjjay 02-20-2006 08:37 AM

it was the baftas yesterday - how much of a clue are they to the oscars?

How much a movie makes at the box office is - and should be - irrelevant for Oscar consideration ... Not every film is backed by a $100+ million advertising campaign or has a wide range of audience appeal like big animated gorillas.

Syriana was ok. It dragged alittle too much. Definately one of those "have to see it more than once" type of movies.

BadDog - can I remind you of your comments when I said that Ledger was good for an Oscar?

I should have put some money on the table :)

Sarah_Jayne 02-20-2006 09:10 AM

last night at the Baftas even though Brokeback one the most it was only 4 and the awards were spread around a lot. I have two films to see this week and then I will have seen all of the best picture films. It is sometimes hard to do that with the way the European release dates work out.

Munich was enjoyable but not best picture good in my view. Crash was decent but again not best picture strength to me. I am seeing Goodnight and Good Luck this week I am curious to see if that lives up to how good people are saying it is.

Sarah_Jayne 02-20-2006 09:11 AM

Also..last night I was SO happy Jake won for best supporting and Heath didn't win. Just because I have been saying since I saw it Jake was the best of the two in the film and he wasn't getting any of the hype that Heath was.

sfera 02-20-2006 10:06 AM

this will be a good one, i cant wait
