Some sequels should never be made

Especially when the original was questionable at best. Sase in point: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure followed by Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey

RevSand 02-18-2006 01:39 AM

VERY true...

Sequels in general are a BAD idea... but hollywood does not have very many orginal ideas so as long as a film makes it investment back and a few bucks they always seem to make one..

Hollywood is not out of ideas, they are out of people with the balls to take a chance on something. There are probably enough good scripts out there to watch a different movie every day until you die but they'll never see the light of day.

Saw "Underworld Evolution" today.. BLECH!!! :disgust

Sarah_Jayne 02-18-2006 02:49 AM

true though I kind of like Bogus Journey.

I found out last year when I was in Phoenix when my flight home was cancelled and I was put up in a hotel I was across the street from *the* Circle K. I realise that is a generational thing but to people my age that was kind of cool to know.

I was just bummed they didn't have a phone booth anymore for me to take a pic.

Wiggles 02-18-2006 05:47 AM

Calito's Way II - perfect example.

aico 02-18-2006 06:06 AM

Prequels is the way to go... Batman Begins was probably the best Batman movie of the bunch.

Hollywood has lost it's creativity, all they make now are either remakes of classics, comics, or old tv shows. Or sometimes they try to fool us with a movie that is a copy of another movie, just given a different title and a slight changed storyline.

Not much new has come out of there for a while now.

VERY true and point taken... I actually agree with you on this in hindsight since I have some friends with some very good screen plays. The "Hollywood system" of making movies does not have the balls to take a risk and rely on old rehashed ideas that have already made money once.. That's why also there is so many copycat movies that come out once one movie that might be slightly new does well.

nakedhollywood 02-18-2006 06:29 AM

Well then you'll be happy to know that these movies are either being made or they are thinking and talking about making them. Most unfortunately ARE being made. Trust me when I say this is just a short bit of the long list of shit movies waiting to come out.
  • 28 Weeks Later AKA (28 Days Later 2)
  • Beverly Hills Cop 4
  • The BodyGuard 2 - (Somebody please stop Whitney Houston from acting again)
  • The Brazilian Job (The Italian Job 2 with Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg)
  • Bring It On Yet Again (Bring It On 3)
  • The Butterfly Effect 2
  • Constantine 2 (Didn't number one suck?)
  • The Cutting Edge 2 ( The first ice skating movie came out what 13 years ago?)
  • Daddy Day Camp - Daddy Day Care 2 ( No that's not a joke)
  • Die Hard 4.0 (Bruce Willis never wanted to do another sequel but bosses told him do it or he couldn't get some other movie done.)
  • Dr. Dolittle 3 - Damn you Eddie Murphy stop with the crappy movies and crappier sequels
  • EI8HT - sequel to se7en. Aren't there only 7 sins? At least I thought so. Apparently in the movie Brad Pitt's character discovers an 8th sin. Good for him.
  • Evan Almighty ( Bruce Almighty 2) - Whatever
  • Evil Dead 4
  • Fantastic Four 2
  • Freddy Vs Jason 2 - Not sure if it's part of the Michael Myers vs Jason Vs Freddy movie they have planned or a movie on it's own.
  • Garfield 2
  • Ghostbusters in Hell
  • Grudge 2
  • Halloween 9 - Retribution
  • Harold and Kumar Go To Amsterdam
  • Hellboy 2
  • Rush Hour 3 - Should have been out already actually but Chris Tucker thinks his shit don't stink and was holding it up with all of his demands such as he wanted to edit the movie. Yeah good luck with that.
  • Saw 3
  • Save the last dance 2
  • Shrek 3 and 4
  • Tomb Raider 3

chadglni 02-18-2006 06:41 AM

Ghostbusters in Hell

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

titmowse 02-18-2006 06:56 AM

Bogus Journey was doomed after the studio refused to go with the original title: "Bill and Ted go to Hell".

Not all sequels are bad. Aliens is an example of a great sequel. The following three and four completely stunk.

Kevsh 02-18-2006 07:22 AM

Ban all movies based on video games and tv shows and we're part way there.

What's worrisome is this trend for making sequels even when the original was terrible, at least it used to be sequels came after the original was a huge success.

[*]Harold and Kumar Go To Amsterdam

Dude, you just made my day. Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle has got to be one of the funniest movies in recent years and I was so looking forward to a sequel. Yaaaaay!

Quagmire 02-18-2006 09:58 AM

I guess it depends on a person's taste in films as to whether that list is all horrible or only partially horrible. Some of the listed films I liked enough to watch a sequel.

nakedhollywood 02-18-2006 10:02 AM

Hope they decide to scrap Daddy Day Camp but knowing hollywood its probably in editing right now.

Pandemos 02-18-2006 10:41 AM

Sequels are no more likely to suck than non-sequels. The majority of movies suck, be they sequels or not.

Bansheelinks 02-18-2006 10:44 AM

I don't know if a series ever fell as far as the "Jaws" franchise. You go from "Jaws," one of the greatest thrillers of all time, to "Jaws: the Revenge," literally one of the worst movies ever made.

:2 cents:

lloyd 02-18-2006 10:48 AM

bambi 2!!!

Pandemos 02-18-2006 10:48 AM

Planet of the Apes came close, but I think you're right with Jaws.

Your right about that, but a lot of movies are doing that or have done that. #1 and sometimes #2 is good, but they keep coming back with crappy sequels with horrible storylines, bad acting, no name actors and usually go straight to video.

Worst sequels ever?
Can't argue much with Jaws but don't forget the Exorcist series ... I'd argue they were even worse than the Jaws ones (at least Jaws 2 was decent). Highlander sequels would also get a few votes too.

Among the best, few could argue with Aliens, Godfather II and The Empire Strikes Back. Each of which was very different than the original, for what it's worth.
