Why does everyone here use ICQ? This is like the only board/industry perhaps that i've seen is soley ICQ users...

don't know really.
it just became the default instant messenger for webmasters.

because you get hit up by less random idiots on icq then yahoo/aim/msn...at least I know it's true for me, lol.

Just so that people will come to gfy to ask this very question once or twice a month.

Because everyone here uses ICQ.

Because it is probably the most recognized tool and everybody seems to use it

industry standard . . . and the history feature really helps

because ICQ has been around longer than msn/aim/yahoo maybe, people settled into ICQ a long time ago

because thats what they put on my business cards.

Did they resolve all the exploit problems? It used to leave your computer ass wide open for intruders

i love yahoo messenger a LOT more! they have pc to pc calling, free voicemail, stealth settings (you can look invisable to some people but visable to everyone..love that feature!), and they also have Archieves/History. and it never fails or goes down, unlike icq.

Personnally I find ICQ more stable than any other IM program.

And by posting an ICQ number, you don't have friggin' email sniffers that pickup your adress and spam you with stupid spammail for years to come

Actually, I find Yahoo Messenger to be way crappier than ICQ, for a number of reasons. ICQ logs are much more easily accessible, whereas you have to dig hard for your Yahoo Messenger ones. Also, Yahoo Messenger loses way more offline messages than ICQ does, in addition to being laggy and overall buggy, most of the time. Sure, ICQ could be better, but I really find it to be the least crappy of the lot.

if you don't like the ICQ client, you could always use Trillian

I use it through trillian but even when I just used it on its own I preferred it for buisness because its history files worked the best. It became popular becase at one point it was what was available and by the time the others became popular everyone was already on icq.

old habits are hard to break. been using it, what 10 years now?

ICQ was the real pioneer in instant messaging.

It has been around much longer than any of the others.

why use anything other than icq?

If you don't know that you're not part of the group. Leave now and never return.

Simple answer : because everyone here uses icq.

It's all about the history for me, and less spam than on other IM tools.

At the same time, I do also use AIM, Yahoo, and MSN to keep in touch with mainstream clients who get a little wrinkle on their brow when I mention ICQ.

simple. lots of features, most stable messenger system around ( widely used )

Was my first mesenger, I love it, plus everyone uses it.

use icq and skype. like skype because of encryption.

i never had yahoo messenger be "buggy" or laggy EVER. actually, the size of icq is WAYYYYYYYYY more than yahoo messenger! never once failed on me, been using it since 1998. :2 cents:

To each their own. Obviously our experiences differ. I guess you've been luckier than I have. :)
