here is my 5 yr olds first pet! A Goliath Bird eater (worlds largest tarantula)
My son loves it and sits just to watch him for hours LOL

yup its easy :) only because he can only watch the spider while its in its closed and safe container and watch him eat his prey. no worries about bites or scratches or him holding him at all

I had a little lizard for one of my first "small" pets when i was a kid. His name was pete. One day i came home to find pete in his aquarium out on the back porch. I went to pet pete and as i stroked down his back and onto his tail he rose up stiff as a nail. Dumbass mom thought he needed some fucking air and left him out on their unattended for 3 hours in 90degree weather.

As brutal as those things look, they are actually very fragile little critters. Be careful not to drop him or let him fall onto a hard surface from any bit of height because his little abdomen could split open and then well... he's off to arachnid heaven.
