What do you need to make one?

wish i could help you but i dont know much

I had a ukraine team working for me like 4 years ago and they were told to do a search engine working like google "roughly speaking"

With search core, spider with indexing abilities and so on....

Anyway the project stopped because the stupidity was greater than me....:1orglaugh

It strongly depends on your needs. A simple over the shelf product could suffice, or you could need a doctorate level design like Brin / Page did for designing Google. You need to outline your specs, how many documents are we talking about, format of the database, structure, indexing based on which fields, etc. etc...?
