question about trouble with my monitor
I bought a monitor a little while back and it's having a problem. It's starting to have trouble displaying white. For example I will have something open like dreamweaver or word that has a white background and all of a sudden all the white kind of turns a light shade of blue/grey. It stays that way for a little bit then goes back to being white. Any ideas what may cause this?
I've tried the following: Degause Making sure everything it plugged in secure updating my video drivers |
Do you have another computer you can try it on? It might be your video card.

is it an old crappy CRT from 1999?

From what I've learned it looks like it is the cable that is shorting. Unfortunatly the cable is hardwired into the monitor. |
If it's only 6 months old then you should consider excercising your warranty options... depending on the store and manufacturer they may just swap it over on the spot for you.

Send it back and exchange for a LCD

Sounds like one of the RGB signal lines in the cable may be shorting. If bright red, green, or blue pixels on your monitor go to black at the same time as the white dims, then that's almost certainly it. White is a lot more obvious because it takes up more of the screen, but pay attention to the color changes too, and note which it is (red green or blue) if you take it in for repair. (White is made up of all three colors, so when one color goes out, it's still fairly bright). It could also be an RGB line short inside the monitor, but if wiggling the connector a bit affects the problem, then it's most likely cable-related.
