so you watched 'City of God', here's the only movie you need to watch in 2006
 

Tsotsi - watched it yesterday, can't remember when was the last time I watched such a powerful movie.

It gets released in the States in a week time, not so sure about Europe, but even if you can get it on DVD, do yourselves a favour and watch it ;)

city of god was awesome. if you saw it you need to see

carandiru as well, another brasilian flick about "fei ben" (prison)

understanding portuguese helps, but there are english subtitles if you don't know it.

damn, I'l have order it from somewhere, nobody here has ever heard of City of God, ok may three or four people ;)

I'm telling you, at the end it pays off to live on the Interenet.

City Of God is my alltime favorite movie, so I'll watch this one too :)

I love watching foreign movies like that. My favorites are Cinema Paradiso and Seven Samurai

If I'm not mistaken, Tsotsi is Presley Chweneyagae's first major film. I only saw the trailer but I could safely say it's one great film. :thumbsup

I'll look out for it when it hits the UK. I watched Bullet Boy today which I think was attempting to be a City Of Godish film but based in the slums of London (which are of course like a palace compared to anything in City of God). It was decent but not in the same league. Worth a watch though.

agreed..I made Peaches watch it :)

Took me ages to watch it because it was in the DVD player when things started to kick off with my husband so I kept putting it off but I was glad I finally watched it. A few of the same actors from City of God too.

Still waiting for 'Carandiru' - ordered it from Amazon right after this thread and it's almost 20 days, gee what takes so long...

Can add now to that list Academy Award for best Foreign Language Film.

They have run the preview in front of all the films I have seen in London for the last month. So, hopefully it will actually be out here soon.
