When You Sign Up For An Affiliate Program......

Now, this is a serious question.

Besides the usual ad tools, what kind of help do you feel is reasonable from the marketing/affiliate support staff?

StuartD 02-16-2006 07:56 AM

exclusive to the affiliate content, exclusive to the affiliate designs, free hosting, to have the sponsor do all the submitting, to convert at 1:50 or less on all traffic to all galleries, to have the sponsor hand deliver my check on the 1st and 15th by 6am....

you forgot breakfast in bed

Guess I'm pretty easy because I've been sitting here thinking about it and can't come up with much.

Besides the usual stuff all I can think of is responsiveness. If I find a bad link on a tour, or broken image on an FHG, or just have a question, then I'd like a reasonable response I guess.

Would you like a blow job with your check?

What about when you sign up, would you want a welcome letter, including assistance in marketing the program's sites?

Basic_man 02-16-2006 08:39 AM

Any kind of help. If they can't help you, just flush them !

That would be a refreshing change...

the only time I ever get a check and screwed at the same time is when the program shaves.

Well, I'm one of those weird people that looks over the whole affiliate program's webmaster tour. Sites, faq, contacts, terms of service (yeah I read them entirely) and all that.. So I'd assume that an email will come telling me they go my application, and then approval email.

Other than that, I'm usually good to go.

There was a recent thread on here about "dirty tricks" and one person posted that their program doesnt have any tricks. Well, I clicked their sig, went to their affiliate program. Contact page was BLANK. Nothing. And there was NO terms of service link. Guess what? I'd never join them no matter what else they did, lmao.

So I suppose #2 expectation would be that the affiliate program pages actually contain something besides "we're better than everyone else cuz we say so".. That would be helpful :)

you forgot that the sponsor has to send traffic to the free galleries, on the free hosting, with the free content, and the 45 recip links to other programs.

the whales rarely ask for anything, it's the morons who push 14 uniques to sponsors over the span of 3 years that want everything done for them, so obviously not for the high rollers, breakfast should be for the noobs :winkwink:

I'm one of those who also read TOS and make sure there is a contact on the contact page. I can see the need for that.

Well, that's a given.

Sub link codes are a big thing for me. I like to be able to track sales coming from different traffic sources.

You're right about that. The whales know what they want, usually.

I'm really talking about those who have just signed up for a program.

So, you'd want to know that you can create your own campaign and track each one?

it still applies to those people, noobs join programs every day :winkwink:

Pandemos 02-16-2006 09:17 AM

A basic one for me is program owners who answer emails from affiliates. About of third of them don't seem to bother.

Why do you suppose that happens?

I know there are often problems with emails, although I'm not offering that as an excuse. But, you must admit, with all the spam filters in place, that emails sometimes simply don't get there.

Dollarmansteve 02-16-2006 09:33 AM

I actually dont want to have to sign up for the program. In addition to doing everything for me, I want the program to randomly select me to be an affiliate and sign-up for the program for me and then send me checks while I sleep.

Tell you what. I'll sign you up for our program. Let's discuss traffic trades. Or will you randomly select me as one of your trades while I arrange a blow job and breakfast in bed for NichePay-StuartD.

I'll sign up under your referral code to the sponsor that has this in their TOS.

I'm hitting you up now, Steve.....and, what you wrote was funny. I can always use a good laugh!

fuzebox 02-16-2006 09:58 AM

The only times I contact the staff is to ask for members area access for content or when payment hasn't arrived.

So, are you saying that when you sign up for the program initially, you have no needs, other than the ad tools and stats tracking, with which to promote the program?

Raven 02-16-2006 10:19 AM

Let me ask this a different way.

When you sign up for an affiliate program, do you resent or not want the 'welcome' email?

jrap 02-16-2006 10:26 AM

I'd like as much statistics as possible..which tours are converting the best, time of day conversions, country conversions, etc

SteveLightspeed 02-16-2006 10:33 AM

Raven, please contact me via icq!

Steve Lightspeed

I vote for that too! This also helps measuring the efficiency of different teasers, and tracking some statistics on your own.

I do not resent it. Some are nice and others are obviously bullshit.

What I would resent about welcome emails from the aff manager or rep would be to answer my email or ICQ that you put in your welcome when stating that I could depend on you if I needed something.

I had a program send me an email yesterday saying she was my new aff manager, and she wanted to know why I wasn't pushing them as hard as I once did. Well... when I signed up to the program, they promised to design me a cobrand page so I took the bait, sent a url and asked that they make me a page with the same look feel, and niches for their products.

I recieve nothing in 2 months, I send another asking if they are just hung up on other things, no response. So I emailed the new girl a reply to her welcome message and told her that if she could only do what was promised to me after signing up, then I will start sending traffic again.

Bottom line is, if you say you will do something to get my interest, and then back out... you just played me. I am no fool. Fuck You.

These folks said they would make me a page and never do, then ask why there is no traffic to their fucking page.

Unbeleivable.

Murderous 02-16-2006 10:48 AM

If you send a welcome message... it should just say "welcome to our program" cause if you fill it with contact info where noone is ever there to be contacted... or fill it with bullshit lies and TONS and I mean fucking TONS of sales pitches and promises then back out... move on.

circlekhabib 02-16-2006 11:04 AM

"what kind of help do you feel is reasonable from the marketing/affiliate support staff?"
none, there's nothing they can do for me I can't
do for myself and rather take care of what I need myself.

agreed coupled with new programs with errors on tours,
same thing.
buh bye
forever

Raven 02-16-2006 12:06 PM

Interesting answers, all of them.

I've received welcome emails and have tried, also, to contact my affiliate manager, to no avail. That seems to be one of the most common complaints.

Sometimes, though, when an affiliate requests something, the answer is no. Would that lose the affiliate?

I understand that hard sales pitches are a bitch.....and, I also understand that an affiliate manager pushing certain sites for reasons other than the fact that they convert like crazy, is also a bitch.

XxXotic - you're right. My bad. Breakfast in bed is for you. Send me traffic. :)
