Need Advise

So I design a non-porn website for a company here in town (Commercial Real Estate company). They work for one of the larger Real Estate companies here. Anyway, I get the site almost done and I call them up to let them know I am almost done when they tell me their company, who has their own marketing division, won't allow them to use an outside website designer/hosting company.

So I spend the money on two domains for them (I am the registrant), content for the website plus about 20-30 hours of labor for them to tell me they would like me to touch up the website their marketing department builds for them but first they want me to transfer the domains over to their company so they can get their website online.

I am not really too hip on that idea cause I am going to get screwed even more than I already have been.

So what are my options?

Thanks,
Flow

Keep the domains and send them the bill for your time. You will release the domains after you're paid. They obviously want the domains

What was the scope of the original aggreement or contract? I would make them pay for that first before touching anyhting new.

Is there any chance of doing further ongoing work for this company? If so, you may want to consider just biting the bullet and working with them on this one.

If not, I would meet with them and have a serious talk about the deal and how put-out you are.

Lastly, it sounds to me like you didn't have an iron-clad deal nailed down in the first place. When you have such a deal put together there is little room for this kind of horseshit and/or "miscommunication".

Actually, we did have an iron-clad deal all worked out. They were aware of the problem but down played it completely. When their employer found out about it, they got their pee-pee's spanked. Rather than be fired for breaking company policy, they decided to screw me instead.

Anyway, thanks for the advise. I will contact them tomorrow and see if we can't work something out before I transfer the domain over to them. Worse case, I will just charge them my "fees" as the charge to buy the domain name from me I guess.

Thanks again,
Flow

Send me your portfolio via ICQ, and if you're even half good, I'll send some work your way to lighten the blow.

Haven't gotten your ICQ yet. I can pay up to $5,000 for mainstream sites.

edgeprod 09-09-2006 05:40 PM

I'll be on from now until about 10 hours from now. Feel free. ICQ number is in my location.

edgeprod 09-11-2006 06:28 PM

I'm available today, again. For about 10 hours. ICQ is in location.

My two cents.. dont work with realtors. They are the cheapest bastards on the planet and will find a way to screw you. I have yet to have one realtor pay what was agreed upon. I no longer accept any work from that industry.
