Video camera suggestions + anyone selling?

Have about $4000 to spend online. Need to buy a high end video camera and maybe some cood accessories for my 20d, anything to help for better quality/more effecient photo/video sessions. Any recommendations? Anyone selling their used gear?

I have the Panasonic AG-DVC7 mini DV camera:

Shoots great in low lighting and all conditions.

SinisterStudios 02-15-2006 04:23 PM

I love my Panasonic DVX100's, wouldnt part with them for anything

mkx 02-15-2006 04:36 PM

ok right now its between the DVX1000, GL2, or the HDR-FX1. I am not too experienced with video work however, I am willing to pay the money for better quality.

I don't know how much it is, but Canon just came out with the XL-H1, it's the High Def version of the XL-2.

Ignore everyone except the guy in the thrid post. Fact is that 99% of porn shooters don't have a fucking clue about anything.

mkx 02-15-2006 04:45 PM

I am thinking this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Sony-HDR-FX1...cmdZV iewItem

Sony VX2100 is the best video camera for porn.
(unless you are looking for an HD model)

It has an awesome 1 lux rating...

mkx 02-15-2006 05:34 PM

I just got back from the local electronics store and the FX1 seems a lot more for the extra couple thousand bucks. Who here shoots with the FX1, I would be interested in checking out some quick clips.

tony286 02-15-2006 05:35 PM

look at the dvx100b and they are offering a $400 rebate for for it, if you want a used dvx www.dvxuser.com is the place to go.

Now there is a smart guy.

Expo_Vids 02-15-2006 05:44 PM

If you want to just turn your camera on and point it at people without having to do any thinking then get the Sony VX2100 or the FX1.

If you want to learn how to actually shoot video get the DVX.

mkx 02-15-2006 05:46 PM

Anyone know any sites that shoot with the FX1? I think this one is good for me

That camera isnt so great , if your going to really make the leap go with the panny hvx or the 3 chip jvc hd. Those are the only two I ve seen footage from that actually blew me away. Also remember if the footage is hot it doesnt matter what you shoot it on.

mkx 02-15-2006 05:58 PM

Where can i see footage examples from these cameras?

mkx 02-15-2006 06:31 PM

found this for skateboarding, huge difference, would be interested in seeing a clip for porn before buying it

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

The VX2100 rocks!

mkx 02-15-2006 07:04 PM

if I was to get the FX1, is there an option to shoot without such high definition? It is only $700 more than the VX2100

leg4 02-15-2006 07:08 PM

Yeah.... FX1... if you can always control your light...
if you're gonna shoot outdoors at night or can't control your light...
get the vx2100

mkx 02-15-2006 07:17 PM

maybe ill get both the vx2000 and fx1 since the vx2000 can be bought for a grand

Tat2Jr 02-15-2006 07:59 PM

Get the 2100 not the 2000.

mkx 02-15-2006 08:09 PM

So you think the FX1 is not worth paying the extra $700 for? Is there away to shoot the FX1 in the same mode as the 2100?

mkx 02-15-2006 09:15 PM

hey expo, what kind of camera did you use to film this? http://www.expovids.com/jenna_jameson/club_jenna.mov

DVX100a on a monopod

Bman 02-15-2006 10:55 PM

well , well well.
First off there are different cameras for different people. i think that is what Greg is really trying to say.
Sony makes a good camera...so say you are in porn valley and say you are male talent with zero camera skills or understanding about anything to do with photography or you shoot reality style porn and want to attain a certain look...then you should use a vx2100.
Say you are a program owner or dvd seller and want to use the words "HD" in your selling material yet have no clue what HD is then you would get your shooters to use a FX-1.

If you were a working camera man , you would probably use the Canon cameras as they take a little bit of skill and have a lot of versability and are very demanding when it comes to a camera whether it is SD or HD.

and last but not least if you have a great eye for style, look and quality and the titles "HD, HDV" or any other sort of BS label matters to you, you would get a panasonic.

Any questions?

mkx 02-15-2006 11:35 PM

Thanks Bman, that clears my mind a bit. I don't mind paying the extra cash for the FX1 over the VX2100. I guess my main question is if the FX1 can do the same job as the VX2100 if HD is set off or the video is edited with less frames / quality, etc. If so, may as well go HD and not stress over it.

If you just want to shoot porn and want the higher res camera get an FX-1 you can turn it to Sd and I believe it uses the same engine as the VX2100 so it works almost exactly the same...and therfore you have the versatlity of both. however don't try and shoot HD for the internet...lol You have to encode it twice and it ends up looking very muddy. You will see people post examples of HD shot content on the internet but it is encoded at a very high bit rate and if you shoot on a SD camera in wide mode it will look better then the HD for the internet as it is only encoded once. However on a widescreen tv the HDV does look better then the Sony SD.However remember this one thing the FX-1 is not true HD and there still is not a HD Standard yet. We will have to wait til Sept and wait for the major studios and HD-DVD/BlueRay makers to make a push on what is going to be dominant. By then we will have to wait another year until the "HD-DVD"s are really selling in stores and in rental shops, by then there will be new HD Standard cameras out and everything will be obsolete. So just remember what you comfortability is with cameras.

mkx 02-16-2006 12:11 AM

ok thats just what I needed to hear. Thanks!

mkx 02-16-2006 01:32 AM
