I trade content for bandwidth. I've never paid a bandwidth bill.

Where did you put your first pics? To show off your content?

everybody pays 1$ per gig because thats minimum price. if you get hosting for .50 cents :1orglaugh your site will be down many times.

i'm sure ppl that buy enough bandwidth can get under $1/gig...

Sites like http://www.cleanfreehost.com get hosting for about 35 cents a gig. But they use around 8500 gig per month...

The more b/w you use, the cheaper your rates are. Simple as that.

I pay 1.50 per gig at www.bluewebhouse.com
and I have no downtime

I also use www.xxxwebhosting.com but I think I pay 2$ a gig there

Wrong.......Not even close to any validity in that statement. It all depends on the amount and quality of bandwidth you use.
