For thos who have never see the inside of the Coliseum , here ya go. It was simply breath taking. Just for them to have the capability to build this in thier day...

The covered part you see here is the actual deck of the coliseum. It used to cover the whole way and under neath is where they kept the animals and slaves. For those who saw the movie Gladiator, the tour guide said the only authentic part of the movie was when the gladiators and animals came from underneath.

Here is where members of the Senate would sit, they each had thier names engraved on the marble stone where thier place was.

Been there years ago. It's impressive but smaller than I thought before I arrived.

now there is some history. Would love to see that one day

HAd an excellent show on the History channel the other night illustrating how they now believe that the coliseum was filed with water for naval war games.

Showed how they removed the wooden sub floor which was supported by removable wooden columns, and then flooded the arena to about a depth of 6 - 8 ' through a system of aqua ducts in about 6 hours.
