whos into Jazz?

are you a player or listener, and what do you like to play/listen to?

reed_4 02-13-2006 11:12 PM

I'm not into pure Jazz but i'm more of pop-jazz. some of my favorite artist are george benson and the swing out sisters.

I'm in to more of the big band sound, so definitely check out the Mingus Big Band, especially their double-disc "Que Viva Mingus." They play every Thursday at the Fez in NYC and I'd definitely check them out if you're in the area.

Can't go wrong with the classics like Davis (Bitches Brew), Monk or Charlie Parker either.

DeanCapture 02-14-2006 08:37 AM

I like progressive contemporary jazz - also like smooth jazz. Check out www.SmoothJazz.com - I play that station a lot :thumbsup

I like listening to instrumental jazz when its raining on a Sunday night. I love to get into a slow mood

Sam Granger 02-14-2006 04:37 PM

Love jazz - only a listener since I can't play any musical instruments.

Jazz clubs in prague are the best! In the cellars.

Miles Davis -- kind of Blue

Herbie Hancock

I may be accused of being cheesy on this next selection but... fuck the haters: Vince Guaraldi

Of course, the obligatory listing of Dave Brubeck--great for easy listening and actually boosts my productivity re project management and specing out new software products for our clients :)

Minte 02-14-2006 04:42 PM

Jazz fan here, everything from Larry Coryell to Ella.
Lately,I've been listening to a lot of sax stuff,Jeff Lorber,Paul Brown Najee.

reginaldo 02-14-2006 07:02 PM

bump for jazz

Aly 02-14-2006 07:12 PM

My big plan is to open a Jazz & Blues Club ...sometime...

My taste's all over the place depending on my mood but currently listening to a playlist of... Koko Taylor, Big Mama Thornton, BB King, Etta James, Miles Davis, Buddy Guy and Nina Simone.. and others who sound like them. :thumbsup

Stamen 02-14-2006 08:02 PM

Dave Brubeck Quartet (Paul Desmond's sound is the best), Herbie Hancock (Not the funk/pop stuff though), Miles Davis if I'm in the mood for some out there crazy genius stuff, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday

Jazz is awesome
