I'm only half-assed watching so I can't say how many... but I have seen some given out, so I know it's not "nothing" :)

Because of the exchange rate - Canada only has 2/3 of a medal

canada usually gets about the same as the u.s.a. per person.

yeah, ever met anyone from bulgaria, romania n' other eastern block countries? More likely he/she's an athelete of some sport from amateur to pro level. Sports are part of everyone's life. Sweden is on top of summer olympics/medal if i recall well related to population. A small country that scores so many medals each time and they don't even have suitable weather for many of the sports just to think about...

Population is main factor. For example.....China has 200,000+ amateur weightlifters trying to become professionals. Only few of them make it to pro level and aside the small weight categories they fail miserable; still they rank for medals in good levels for weightlifting level since small categories are a dozen. If they weren't 1bil population this country wouldn't be anywhere at that rank.

Going into Sat. Canada was ahead of the USA.

But I am curious by "where it matters"? Are you saying some events/medals "don't matter" ... like maybe the snowboard events where the USA got 4 of theirs? :)

And when did Canada come home with "nothing"? We had I believe 17 medals at the last winter Olympics. As for the Summer Games, well, we are the "Great White North" so give us a break :)

We're doing well so far. 11 medals total, with more on the way.

No one said population is the only thing that count!...this is winter olympic...you really think China and India and Brazil are going to perform? A lot of people living in these country never even saw snow....

There is also the ammount of money invested in sport/athletes by the country...

That...and...of course...population...saying that population don't matter is just stupid... do you have more chances of finding a good athlete in a crowd of 300 or in a crowd of 2500.... ??? Well that's pretty much the same ratio as canada and USA regarding population...

considering indonesia, brazil etc.. in this equation is stupid...they have no winter...
