You can also send free text messages to sprint and nextel users without cost or logging on from sprint.com -- the middle of the main page

you always could send text messages for free using a computer. Each cell provider has an email system in place such as if the number is 123-456-7890 you'd email it to [email protected] or whatnot.

You can accomplish pretty much the same thing from any carriers website. And the advantage of a carriers website is that you get to type in anything you want as the "FROM:" field.
