bump for you dude.

Jarmusch 02-12-2006 10:12 PM

I don't think they post here. Care to share what the problem is?

Dynamix 02-12-2006 10:51 PM

I was afraid they didn't lol.. I'm trying to install Comus and TTT for a client, and he neglected to give me his MySQL database hostnames.. rather than the standard localhost, DreamHost clients have the ability to assign a subdomain and domain to each MySQL database. I can't get ahold of the guy I'm installing for, so I was hoping someone at DH would be able to give me the hostnames.. guess it'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

You gotta contact their support through the web panel. It normally takes a couple hours to answer.

So you're still in time to talk your client out of hosting his tgp at dreamhost, that's really not the host you want to run scripts on high traffic sites like tgp's. Their mysql is slow as a 3-legged dog and they cut you off if you use too much cpu time.

Dreamhost - only good in dreams.

try http://wiki.dreamhost.com

you can search most shit relevant to dreamhost

I refer everyone I can to High Country.. been with them a year and haven't had the slighest problem yet. If only everyone that needed installs went through them, my life would be 10x easier :)

Looked through there.. that's how I found the MySQL hostnames were assigned to something other than 'localhost'

HorseShit 02-12-2006 11:03 PM

well <mysqldbnameofyourchoice>.yourdomain.extension

if only it were that easy... ::sigh::

HorseShit 02-12-2006 11:09 PM

that's how it is through their panel.. if you're doing it over SSH it may not be the same though because they probably don't have the setup ordinary.

Doctor Dre 02-12-2006 11:34 PM

I really wouldn't suggest to host a tgp on dreamhost thought, kinda suicidal. It's a good blog host and shit like that, but when your TGP goes down for an hour or two, you loose a week of traffic gain...
