Watching the Olympics? Intersting stuff so far

I saw that men's speedskater from Texas Chad Hedrick won gold in the 5000m today. Congrats to him and to the US, nice win there. I would have thought your best skater would have come out of Minnesota or North Dakota, not Texas. :D

Canada has it's very first EVER gold in women's mogul skiing. Jennifer Heil went last and pulled it off. To be honest I hadn't taken much notice of this particular sport before, caught a little of it here and there during past winter Olympics but I found it quite interesting today.

Looking forward to watching the bobsleigh events, the downhill skiiing, and of course the hockey. Ahh the hockey... if there's a heaven I'm sure hockey is it's official sport. :D

I wonder how well Canada will actually do..they are hoping for 25 medals but reality maybe 18

Hard to say at this point, but I see that our women's hockey team is destroying the Russians 9-0 at the moment. :D

I love the Olympics, was at the '76 summer games in Montreal. I may very well go to the 2010 winter games in Vancouver.

Started to watch women's hockey but it was just too boring. :(

Yes Hedrick is pretty impressive for only a few years on the ice. Pretty good olympics so far.

Whaatt?? There are plenty of Danes competing in different events man.

Didn't a Dane win a medal in speedskating yesterday? I could be wrong, I know one competed in that 5000m men's.

Chad was originally an inline speed skater. He was able to take his inline skating and transfer over to ice easily. If you notice his form is not like the others, he skates more like an inline skater. Same with Derek Parra, he used to skate at our local rink.

My husband is an inline speed skater and we have skated our entire lives. Only reason I know this stuff :)

They'll win that amount alone in woman's hockey 20+ :thumbsup

Men's luge is on now. I can't imaging going that fast on a tiny sled like that. One wrong move and you're turned into processed lunch meat on that ice.

Moguls are fun to watch. Especially if you ever ski moguls, you appreciate just how crazy they are to do that and keep those knee's tight, and then do jumps! insane.

Yeah, they make it look easy but that is some wild fucking skiing.

Ski-jumping too. That sport is insanity personified. Imagine skiiing down the face of a sloped 20-story building and then jumping off? I can't even imagine how one would get started in a sport like that.

Vitasoy 02-12-2006 12:03 PM

Caught the Moguls yesterday morning, I loved it :)

Congrats to that French skier for winning gold in the men's downhill yesterday. Damn that guy hauled ass down that hill, blew everyone else's doors off.

Today was "Crash Monday" at the games, in case some of you missed it. I don't think I've ever seen so many crashes, falls and dumps in one day of events. A couple of women lugers took wicked spills (and at the speed they fly down that ice run at, I do mean wicked), at least 3 women's skiers also had hard falls in the downhill, the Canadian skier tore up her knee and is out of the games.

A couple of men's speedskaters hit the ice hard, and finally.... wow.... a figureskating pairs team from China took a bad slam on the ice... well SHE did anyway. He threw her into what was supposed to be a quad salchow, so she was pretty high up off the ice when things went wrong. I thought she was done the second I saw her hit, her leg splayed out in a weird way when she slammed down on the ice (and then slid into the boards) and it was just, well, bad.

But amazingly, after taking a few minutes to regain her composure they picked up where they left off and went on to win the Silver.

Some pretty cool crashes though, if you're into that sort of entertainment.
