ICQ Pros please help

ICQ just took a giant shit on me. Froze up, then said I had some runtime error.

I rebooted and it did not help, so I ran a scandisk, which found errors and fixed, then I rebooted again.

Now, ICQ loads, but treats me like I am a new user. I got it to restore my contact list (thank God), however, I have no history for anyone. Not too good.

Anyone have any idea what file is my history and how I can restore it?

Thank you in advance.

how many people do you have on there, mine kept fucking up the last few days, deleted a few old names I havent talked to in a while its fine now,. As for your other question I dont know:(

yes, check program files/icq/ and you will find a few files named youruinnumber.idx (or similar) - those files contain your history. If you cant get them to work in icq, there are "history readers" (freeware) that you could use.

There used to be a conversion tool that would pull in all your history from older versions after you updated. I used to use that to pull in my historys when swapping computers, or just when ICQ would take a crap on me. Dunno if they still do that, I've been using trillian for years.

I do remember the history files were all named by the persons icq number. So if you just go into the install dir, and search for someones number you should be able to find where those files are.

I found that, but it is too small and I can see up increase in size with every comment I make now. Looked thru my recycle bin and it isn't there either . . . guess I am screwed

:error should be a .dat-file I think. Check that instead.

The dat file with my ICQ number just seems to show info on everyone on my list. I see some history, but just from the 2 people I have talked to since I restored ICQ

Evil Doer 02-09-2006 04:47 PM

what was the run-time error?

digifan 02-10-2006 02:14 AM

baddog 02-10-2006 02:15 AM

Not a lot of help now but why not use this as the time to switch to Trillian Pro? We use it on everything here and have done for years.

Primarily because I know that people with Trillian that try to get authorization from ICQ peeps have a 50-50 chance of getting thru.

Never had a problem with authorization getting through but before being authorized a lot of messages drop for spam.

well, I know a lot of people have requested authorization from me, that I never got, and they were using Trillian . . . so 2+2= . . .
