methinks Canada's greatest icon is skating on thin ice today.

the whole thing is nonsense - as long as he wasn't betting on NHL games he's done nothing wrong. recreational gambling is part of society these days.

what may tarnish his reputation is that he uncategorically denied knowing anything about the gambling ring and now there are wiretaps proving otherwise.

does anybody actually believe his wife made $500,000 worth of bets? pretty obvious she made them on his behalf.

He should just admit it now... instead of digging himself a hole..

Btw.. Recchi's wife has also apparently placed some bets... on Basketball and football.. haha.. im sure they couldnt name 2 basketball or football teams...

But what doesnt smell good is Gretzky obviously knew this thing was illegal since he had his wife bet for him... Why does Mr. Integrety, a multi multi millionaire would place bets (to win pocket change) with an organization he knows is illegal while he can do it the legal way... !?!

He'll then say that Tochett assured him it was legit, etc.. and the reason he had his wife bet for him was because he just didnt want to be known as a gambler if the story ever got out...

the question isn't whether Janet Jones has that kind of scratch - she does - her husband's money. Her movie career was brief and she was hardly a big star - she didn't make big money. Who's more likely to be betting $500,000 on pro sports - a 40 year old mom or Wayne Gretzky? It may never be proven that the bets were Gretzky's if his wife sticks to the story. There's the possibility that she is a sports bettor - just think it's highly unlikely and obvious what was going on.

The only reason this is a problem is because most sports betting is illegal in America (except in Nevada) while it's perfectly legal in Canada. That's the source of all this confusion.
