U.S. army makes wounded soldier pay for bulletproof vest he ruined

while getting shot..

haha ouch that would suck.. they made this guy have to borrow money from his friends so he could pay back the money for the vest before he could be discharged. A vest ruined when he was SHOT..

saw that on the news earlier talk about a shitty situation

tony286 02-08-2006 11:56 PM

This admin doesnt get a shit about the soldiers I wish people would wake the fuck up.

pornguy 02-08-2006 11:59 PM

If I were a soldier, and being sent over, I wouls take my own damn vest. the ones that give are total crap anyway.

Love Sex 02-08-2006 11:59 PM

I also dont understand why bulletproof vests are illigal. You can buy a gun anywhere but try and protect yourself and your going away.

Rochard 02-08-2006 11:59 PM

I'll never forget the night my bus pulled into Paris Island for boot camp in the US Marines. They told us in no uncertain terms that we were now property of the US Government; Suicide was unthinkable because you would be damaging "US property".

However, this sounds silly.

:thumbsup
and i doubt you would pay $700 for a vest that didnt work anyways..:thumbsup

Linguist 02-09-2006 12:02 AM

It was a misunderstanding because the guy didn't write the vest off after being wounded... I'm sure he'll get reimbursed.

Snake Doctor 02-09-2006 12:03 AM

He wasn't given permission to get shot by his CO, so it was his own damn fault.

My wifes cousin was just shipped over with his tank crew. They don't have a tank for them so they got a humvee, they had to pony up 900 bucks each to buy armour for the fucking humvee themselves.. Armour which stays on the car after they leave non the less... What a bunch of shit.

basschick 02-09-2006 12:07 AM

the article doesn't say that. it says

" all because [b]a supply officer failed to document that the vest had been destroyed more than a year ago as a biohazard[b]."

failed to document = forgot to write off.. :error

Edit: didn't see the supply officer thing, so I guess the officer is to blame and not the guy

thats hardly the point , if he didnt borrow the money from his friends to pay back an "obviously" mistaken debt , he would not have been able to get discharged.. so they are going to make a wounded vet wait over a beurocratic mistake.. unacceptable

The whole thing i sprobably because soldiers were taking items like vests home with them and the army was pissed because they are expensive and re-useable.. so they made a rule to charge anyone $700 if they didnt turn in their vest. his never got signed off on..

true but its like gfy , if nobody makes a thread ( ie news story ) a company will pull the same scam on lots of people

fetishblog 02-09-2006 12:45 AM

This was on the news earlier. The government has already refunded the money. Quit blowing shit out of proportion. *sigh*

its not about HIS money .. read the thread or the article ..

I sure would like to over-bill wounded vets and refuse to send them home , then refund the money only to those who complain..

I would too. Quite a few soldiers were doing that, about $6k for full body armor, but the Army is now threatening to void death benefits ($400k) for soldiers killed using non-issue armor, which makes it a tradeoff for those concerned about such benefits. The army-issued armor provides much less side and shoulder protection, and the deficiency is blamed for up to 80% of deaths in in Iraq.
