he's got the moves, give him a couple of years to still grow and bulk up and he will be even better. He's got every skill needed to be a top scorer in the league, I just think he's not as big yet as he could be and should be stronger in front of the net. If your a centerman you can rack up the assists, but that requires having players who can score, which Sidney does not. Eventually you would think Therion would put Recchi or a Malone on a line with him so he has someone with speed to make the outlet pass to, instead of always having to carry the zone on his own. Which is why Palffy was a perfect fit for him. Give the quick outlet, let the speed of Ziggy get it into the zone and then join in on the rush and make things happen.

AO plays defense??? Half assed at best. Physical, no, but does have an edge when he gets hit or slashed, which is what Pavel also possesed. Better slap shot, that he does have. Pavel didn't have a great slap shot.

The key here is this, if your starting a franchise, you would take either player, but just expect different things from both. Both are franchise players and are and will be superstars for many years.

Your forgetting to add the teams they play for into consideration. Most great center's also play with good to great players. The only center on that list of top scorers right now who doesnt play with decent players is Olli Jokinen who has Horton on his line who is decent but young. If Palffy was still on the team and on Sid's line, no doubt his numbers are higher due to more assists. But his two linemates for the past month have 12 goals and 29 points combined. Not much support at all. And if you seen the games like you claim, you would know how many insane passes Crosby has sent their way, they were not ready for, or could not finish.

Lesson - If both players have no help, then the winger with great speed can cheat out of the zone and create more points for himself than a center who has more responsiblities in the defensive zone.

Don't forget 18 and playing in the QMJHL and 20 playing in the Russian Elite league are two very very different leagues. No question Ovechkin is far more ready for the NHL due to experience playing with men, plus the two crucial years to mature and grow into his frame. We'll see in a couple years where they will be. But both are pretty even right now.
