Bad Sign for our Industry?
 

Less than 10 people have dropped $20 for the PINK+AID charity DVD.

I'm honestly suprised. Is the price point too high?
Or do people not see the value of supporting a project that makes our industry look good?

(We could care less if you watch it, but *buying* it is important to show people that we can do something good. Remember, Habitat for Humanity DECLINED our money. Wouldn't it be great to show them what a big mistake that was?!)

Or are people waiting for payday or ???

I know some people were waiting for the SSL certificate to be in place, and now it is.

I'm seriously asking for advice/suggestions. 'Cause there is still lots of work to be done, but if people *within* our industry don't see the value, then maybe PINK+AID is a dead end.

Halcyon, you're a cool dude that seems to be respected by most from what I've seen. In fact you've got a healthy following.

Speaking from the standpoint of someone who hasn't purchased one the price is insignificant in my mind. Perhaps, if anything the price point was too low.

I think about PBS telethons and fundraisers.

For a $100 donation you often get a crappy gift of little or no value at all. However, PBS raises millions of dollars annually through these drives.

It seems that most who can spare a few dollars to a charity isn't too concerned about getting anything for themselves, rather they often like to know that as much of their donation is going directly to the charity.

I have seen some amazing generosity on these boards from webmasters and programs large and small.

If you ask me, Pink Aid seems to be a worthy cause and very unique on it's own. The DVD is a nice little perk for a donation. It may be hard to go backwards now but it would be a good "thank you" for a Pink Aid Donation of $50 or more.

That said, best of success with the DVD sales and the charity.

Yeah, good points. I think its also been too long since the Katrina media blitz. Most people's compassion for the area has dwindled.

So maybe we need to make a bigger point of it being a "statement to the world" about the potential for Sex as a tool of good. Food for thought. :)

No matter how well recieved you & Tassy are on this board, as a whole the adult industry is a cynical lot. Granted you guys have garnered a lot of popularity and positive vibes in such a hostile environment is a really big accomplishment.

Things move very fast, and what was hot 15 minutes ago most likely is yesterday's news.

I know I am just pointing out the obvious, but let me get to the point. What i am saying is; you guys are very well recieved. So promote the shit out of your stuff and to hell with sigwhores who bitch about it. The more you keep it fresh in peoples' ears, the more likely that person who meant to buy it but forgot to will be reminded and go for the gold.

This is why people who follow through with what they said they would do and have the capacity to remember what they promised are very valued in this biz. At least to me they are. :2 cents:

You didnt actually think people care about charity? Charity starts at home. The majority of people get into porn for money because they are pretty fucking clueless about making it elsewhere and think that it is easy cash.

Personally I think it is great that you are doing something to help someone else. I dont think it is a bad day for this industry, most industries are pretty much a bunch of tight wads. Sad thing is that it is usually the people with the least to give that will donate.

I guess I hoped that people (webmasters/program owners) would see it as not just a plea for charity but as an example (for the world) of Porn being used for good.

For example and I am serious take that 20 bucks and 20 or so sales and buy a slot on The Hun. It will yield more exposure and repeat this on a few different hi profile portals.

I think it would be a sound investment to promote the project where more eyes will see it.

i think the dvd is a great idea. But making it available to DL would be even better. Some people just hate getting things in the mail.

Personally, I want the DVD

Have to agree with you. The title of this thread is slightly misleading.

Personally the industry is making me a shit load and is not in a bad state at all.

Not sure how much time a paysite member's area would take to maintain - unless it's going to be a continuous project. I'd be happy with paying and downloading though - or the option to ship to someone else (but have no clue who) - or even to choose not to receive it. (but still be able to donate)

Well, DisasterCorps are living in tents with one dial-up account to access. They do not have a big corporate office or non essential staff. I did talk to them on teh phone the other day as tehy were sitting around the camp fire. Crazy.
