Google Payment Service: GBuy

Google Payment Service: GBuy

"Very curious to know what people think and if they are willing to try the new service when it becomes available.

PayPal must now contend with Google. The Mountain View, Calif., Web-search giant, which has terrified Silicon Valley with its ability to quickly create new consumer products and services, is developing a rival service called GBuy. For the last nine months, Google has recruited online retailers to test GBuy, according to one person briefed on the service. GBuy will feature an icon posted alongside the paid-search ads of merchants, which Google hopes will tempt consumers to click on the ads, says this person. GBuy will also let consumers store their credit-card information on Google.

Google said that it has acknowledged publicly on many occasions that it is working on payment products. The company also said it already processes online payments for ad services, as well as fees from consumers who use features such as Google Store and Google Earth. It declined to comment on any pending products."

Gpay beta disclaimer.. if we loose all your money, well, it's in beta, you take the risk. Thats the kind of competition paypal needs to be scared of.

shuki 02-07-2006 05:13 PM

It will at the very least make paypal improve their customer service

crockett 02-07-2006 05:22 PM

would be nice if they accept adult.

swoop 02-07-2006 05:24 PM

so far i'm impressed with all that google has put out, so this should be good

woj 02-07-2006 05:30 PM

can't wait for this to roll out, should be good stuff...

WME 02-07-2006 06:50 PM

darnit 02-07-2006 06:54 PM

Gbuy. Wow, that name is a surprise :upsidedow

Lil hating on them aint ya.
Gmail is rarely if ever buggy and is more likely than not the best email service out there specially for free.
Google talk is actually pretty nice, specially with the new added history feature.

johnnyhey 02-07-2006 07:01 PM

i hope paypal has to shut it's doors.

completely agreed. the only cool peripheral product/service they have released is Google Earth. they are also monetizing it by letting networks like CNN use it on the news. but it's obvious they really need to stay within their own core competence: indexing the world's information and making it easy to access for everyone plus montizing it.

Goog is the perfect example of a company with more money than ideas. you can hire all the PhDs in the world, but that won't produce the next 'killer app'.

bdld 02-07-2006 07:08 PM

hopefully another great google product, i know gmail and google maps were amazing.

prime 02-07-2006 07:21 PM

way to go mr Google! taking the net world, one search at a time :)

competition brings out the best of them. and consumers will feel good bout it

reynold 02-07-2006 07:23 PM

Gbuy?! Paypal days will soon be over...

jjjay 02-07-2006 07:38 PM

I don't know if this will work, some Google stuff seems to completely miss the mark. is anyone actually using Google Base for example?

Ahh fuck why did you have to mention that.

divinity 02-07-2006 07:41 PM

Google keeps collecting information.. scary..

pornguy 02-07-2006 07:47 PM

I would rather have seen them buy paypal, than start thier own new one.

back in 2002, Inktomi (now Yahoo search) inked a deal with the CIA through the CIA's company called In-Q-Tel, Inc.

http://www.gcn.com/21_17/tech-report/19141-1.html

The public info was that the CIA was simply going to use this technology in-house. yeah - right.

i'm suprised nobody talks about In-Q-Tel. it's a CIA company that 'invests' in technology/information companies. i'm sure if they 'invested' enough into some information companies, they would have significant access to information

The Sultan Of Smut 02-07-2006 07:58 PM

I think it will do well but I would be very surprised if they support adult transactions.

BluMedia 02-07-2006 08:00 PM

I hope GPay blows paypal away. I am hoping they allow adult stuff.

Mark

jjjay 02-07-2006 08:03 PM

GPay is the new StormPay.

Doc911 02-07-2006 08:05 PM

I'm definitely going to check that out when its available

their adwords is said to be 30% click fraud with the SEC looking into it

google is a one trick pony for now scrambling to add revenue streams

yes - but - it's a $6 billion a year one trick pony. most businesses would kill for that sort of result...

defresto 02-07-2006 10:34 PM

I won't give them my credit card :)

defresto 02-07-2006 10:35 PM

click fraud will kill adsence and they will reject most of the sites
advertisers suffer but keep the ads because adwords appear in google too

chshkt 02-08-2006 05:28 AM

it must be better than the biggest fraud PayPal

everestcash 02-08-2006 06:19 AM

the more services, the better, as it breeds competition = healthy for any industry

Marshal 02-08-2006 10:33 AM

i hope they would accept adult biz! :)

Luc 02-08-2006 10:51 AM

like the others said, google is trying to do everything but in reality they are doing nothing.

- froogle sucks balls. it's still buggy and not a lot of people are using it. they started working on froogle 3 years ago and it hasn't improved much since day 1.
- gmail is nice, but it's still buggy as hell. it's been in beta for a while too with no end.
- video is "ok" but won't survive. they are stealing content from too many places. they will get sued for this eventually and they will lose.
- adwords just SUCKS. they have not changed their system to help advertisers at all, they just try to figure out neat ways to rip them off more.

i could go on. they are grabbing everytihng but not doing much to improve what they have.

i will comment. google.com search engine is still better then most of the others though msn is catching up. google maps is great.

they've lost focus.

Pornwolf 02-08-2006 12:08 PM

I agree that Adwords sucks, and Google Video has a long way to go. But GMail is fucking great, as well is Maps, and Earth. I also use Froogle pretty regularly.

So, when GBuy comes along sign me up.

WebairGerard 02-08-2006 12:42 PM

paypal could use the competition. they have the fucking worst customer service on Earth.

loverboy 02-08-2006 12:50 PM

i'll try their service in a year or two
