Who do you use for your investments?
 

I've looked at some of the companies like Vanguard, etc..
and the do it yourselfers like etrade, etc..

How many people here actually invest?

What do you guys like best...
1. Investment company like Vanguard? Which company? Why?
2. A do it yourself place like etrade? What url? Why?

Looking for some insight so I can narrow down my search a little. So many options and I think I'm starting to get old :(

it largely depend on the amount you have in mind for investment. if you have more than $100K, i may have something interesting for you.

No, I'm thinking more along the lines of a normal and regular investment plan, like 15-20% of my gross income over the next 25 plus years. I already have a strategy basically, just trying to narrow down some of the options regarding investment companies vs do it yourself companies. Interested in what companies people use or have used and good vs bad experiences.

Because I'm looking for a long term, higher rate of return. Plus, I don't want too easy access to it. I have a mall happy wife and I don't do to bad at spending it myself :)

Commissions are a little high.. Advice isn't always objective... but boy.. can they get you deals on stock.

there are a few instruments with some of the big investment funds and international banks: basically, there are programs for 3 years and more: they can guarentee you 100% of the investment PLUS fix it to the DJ, S&P, Eurodox etc. so you have full exposure to the stock exchange - plus a guarentee that even if there is a complete melt-down - you still get the nominal you invested... problem is, they like higher amounts for those things plus i am not sure its for a monthly installments...

Vanguard has very low expense ratios and they are rock solid. Index funds are usually a good way to go for long term investment.

Yep, Vanguard is the way to go if you are starting out

they have an index fund that mimics the SP 500

all electronic, thats why the expense ratio is tiny

it has gotten very popular

i'd look at a good mix of stocks. grab some index funds for sure. but grab some small cap funds, reits, and some international growth funds.

if ur asking where to invest u prolly shouldn't trade on ur own :)

I use Quick&Reilly do-it-yourself broker through FleetBank just because it's very convenient since you can do everything online and its combined with all my bank accounts in one palce.

i would invest in more than just index funds or funds that are linked the indexes. unless u just want to perform the same as the index. but i'm assuming u would want to make more.
