Is grabbing your ICQ from your SIG and contacting you consdered Spam

If I was to grab you sig and and message you about an affiliate program to let you know about any speicial promotions. Would you consider it spam?

seeric 02-07-2006 02:14 PM

isnt that why people put em there?

After Shock Media 02-07-2006 02:15 PM

Yes I would consider it spam.

At very least have something else to talk about and when and if I ask what you do then fill me in. Yet at the same time do not use some bullshit conversation.

reginaldo 02-07-2006 02:17 PM

just break the ice with a racial or homosexual comment... then ask if they want to sign up here:

ElvisManson 02-07-2006 02:19 PM

no. if someone doesn't want to be contacted by icq why would they have desiplayed in their sig?

sicone 02-07-2006 02:19 PM

could be...

is the person already a affiliate? If yes, are you their rep or are they assinged to someone else?

reginaldo 02-07-2006 02:22 PM

Any attempt to cheat, especially with my wife, who is a dirty, dirty, tramp, and I will probably just snap.

AmateurFlix 02-07-2006 02:26 PM

if I were doing business with you already I wouldn't mind... if I weren't you can be certain I'd probably never sign up to your program...

I totally agree

Tom_PM 02-07-2006 02:33 PM

Doing it repeatedly after you know it's unwanted by the recipient would be "spam" IMO.

G-Rotica 02-07-2006 02:33 PM

just don't start the convo with "Hey wanna promote www.shootahotloadupmyass.com ??" Some of us do use ICQ at our day jobs.

I got something like that the other day, my boss was using my system. He was like wtf, I was like fuckin spam.

everestcash 02-07-2006 02:33 PM

agree, icq there = means it ok to contact, imo

Jace 02-07-2006 02:43 PM

if you don't want to be contacted about business, then don't put your icq there....on this board, it is an unwritten rule that putting your icq in your sig means you want to be contacted about business...some may not like it, but that is the way it works :)

Roald 02-07-2006 02:43 PM

it depends on how you bring it. My business card says contact me if you have a business opppertunity, a suggestion or a question and is showing my icq (an cell) underneath it so that mean yes its ok. Just don't bullshit around.

For the same reason they have their name and number in the phone book but don't want telemarketers to call :winkwink:

I think that usually people put their icq #'s in their sig for people to contact them about what THEY are doing. Not to hear what you are doing.

business is like "hey, you want to trade with my site?" or "hey, you selling any domains?" and thats fine

but "hey buddy, we just launched another-shitty-paysite.com why dont you sign up and send some traffic?" is kinda different

I am sure that you are correct. I still don't consider it spam to contact someone about what I am doing.

my Number is unlisted.

:pimp

Doc911 02-07-2006 02:56 PM

Most people who put their icq in their sig are promoting their own programs and sites. I think that sending them unwanted sales pitches for your program might be considered spam.

Murderous 02-07-2006 03:03 PM

If we have had no previous engagements or if you and I knew each other through a different company, then anytime you message me or email me with your garb, I will never sign up to your program. This is exactly why I have not signed up to MayorsMoney. The email I recieved from them was from PornCity, and if it does not pertain to porncity, why are you coming to me with it?

SPAM!

And don't try to pull the disclaimer card about us or any sister companies when at the time I gave you my email addy the company being spam never existed. Considering there was even a disclaimer in the first place.

I agree.....

joefriday 02-07-2006 03:09 PM

I totally agree if they didnt have ICQ there that woul;d mean they didnt want to be contacted. If its regarding a ?? or somtning in their sig then would be OK.

Phoenix 02-07-2006 03:14 PM

no..anyone who complains about that..is not really in for the business id say

I'm adding jace @ serion . com to my mailing list :thumbsup
or does that rule only apply to icqs?

exactly... there's probably at least 5-10 new sites going live everyday, the last thing I want is an icq notification of each and every one of them. If someone I'm sending sales to every day contacts me I wouldn't mind it though.

I already spammed you a few times, 15 times today alone.

Jaymus. 02-07-2006 04:03 PM

You put your contact info in your sig if you want to be contacted. Doesn't that sound logical?

thanks! for NP bump :thumbsup

Doctor Dre 02-07-2006 04:14 PM

It'd be kinda the same as collecting webmaster emails... it's related spam

Deej 02-07-2006 04:17 PM

no, its not

Bird 02-09-2006 05:19 PM

I got us banned

SykkBoy 02-09-2006 05:33 PM

while I don';t consider it spam, I do get annoyed when someone just hits me up with an advert out of the blue...at least make conversation...also, I'm often busy and if you are hitting me up for the first time, don't be offended if I take a little longer to get back to you, especially if I'm assisting an affiliate or someone else....want to move up my priority list? Don't hit me up with the same sales message everytime I sign on to ICQ. Talk to me, tell me what you want, but don't just keep hounding me. I try to extend this courtesy to everyone I contact as well.

Zuzana Designs 02-09-2006 06:22 PM

I don't think it's spam.. unless you kept saying over and over again hey Jade join my program..

LittleMack 02-09-2006 06:38 PM

I am always looking for trades to our program and a blog so I would not have a problem with someone hitting me up....I dont like the blanket spam on ICQ but if you are not a bot and are willing to have a conversation with me, always willing to listen
