will be interesting to see how it works out.

jacked 02-07-2006 11:20 AM

pretty good idea if you ask me... could help save the lives of some innocent people that get caught in the middle of these high speed chases and i'm sure it will allow them to pursue by helicopter a hell of a lot easier

Fred Quimby 02-07-2006 11:20 AM

Bratton, who often calls the city the car chase capital of the world, was asked why there are so many pursuits in Los Angeles: "There are a lot of nuts here," he said.

Baker Rd 02-07-2006 11:21 AM

So what's to stop them from getting out of the car and pulling it off?

KRL 02-07-2006 11:21 AM

Stupid idea. The bad guys could just pull over and kick the GPS ball off the back of the car.

GlydeGirl 02-07-2006 11:21 AM

Great idea!

Jace 02-07-2006 11:21 AM

haha, that is awesome

brand0n 02-07-2006 11:22 AM

and when the guys get out and run.. the sticky ball is going to... jump off and grab them?

Deej 02-07-2006 11:24 AM

dude....great if its a super adhesive....it is problyt just the size of a golf ball but when it hits it should spread and stick....

if it works, about time we use the technology for something useful

Manowar 02-07-2006 11:24 AM

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh wtf . thats crazy

good point also...if its stolen then they bail.....

it will be useful in some cases

johnnyhey 02-07-2006 11:25 AM

bad idea, they'll just jack another car. it's not rocket science.

infecto 02-07-2006 11:41 AM

Its like the the cops will have no damn clue where the guys are people. They will be close enough to them to nab them if they stop to take off the device or switch cars.

Fresh 02-07-2006 11:47 AM

LA without car chases???

wtf is the world coming to?

G-Rotica 02-07-2006 11:49 AM

Did anyone warn OJ?

That's exactly what I thought. There's no cops around so you have a minute to pull over and rip this thing off your car and throw it onto another car. Its easier just to have a helicopter pursue the car until the car stops.

NoWhErE 02-07-2006 11:57 AM

Well I doubt they're just going to fire the damn thing and call it a day...

They just won't have to pursue him at a dangerous 70-80 mph. All they have to do is keep following him at a reasonable pace until he eventually stops or crosses into a police Heavy zone. The ball is designed to avoid innocent bystanders being killed by car chases.

If the police aren't following him at high speeds, the runaway won't have to go so fast, thus less danger. But the whole game remains the same as any car chase... they wait for him to make a stupid move/blow his tires with spike tracks or wait for him to completely stop.

nico-t 02-07-2006 12:02 PM

read people! they dont have to chase them with HIGH SPEED - they still be chasing them just not bumper to bumper.

pr0 02-07-2006 12:11 PM

Good car chases kill innocent people. And they usually start because someones had a few drinks, or an outstanding warrant for unpaid tickets.

Well the good news is we won't have to wait too long to find out... :1orglaugh

The other day I was watching the news and there was a car chase in or near Temecula/Lake Elsinore and then it ended and minutes later one began up closer to L.A.

It's a great idea. A lot safer for the cops, suspect and the rest of the public. They will still follow the vehicle, just at a much better distance. I'm sure they will continue to follow with the helicopter just as much as they do now.

dissipate 02-07-2006 12:19 PM

looks like a good idea that may save some lives.

It just stops them from pursuing them via high speed chase. It's not like they'll give up and check on them at a later time. :2 cents:

You really think that that's going to be on their mind? Plus the tracking device will know where they're at anyways. So once it stops, I'm sure they'll have cops in that area anyways.

:)

Doc911 02-07-2006 03:04 PM

I thought thats why they had helicopters. To follow the car without having to tail them in a car at high speed.

I've often seen the helicoptors lose track of the car they are pursuing. Usually they re-spot them but occasionally they don't.

tristan_D 02-07-2006 03:54 PM

its should come with an explosive which will detonate if you attempt to detach it

They'll obviously block all the roads near and keep police officers all arround...

I think the point is pretty much getting them to stop so they can nab them

WME 02-07-2006 06:48 PM

I would love to see a demo of that
