Tungsten, Silicon, Palladium, Krypton, Neon, etc. Nerds tend to come up with the craziest names for their machines, this thread could be interesting :)

At one place we gave all machines bird names. Another one it was nautical names since our office was in the harbor.

That reminds me of a former head IT guy we had; company's in Colorado so all servers were named after ski resorts. Eventually, the new head IT standardized it into some cryptic name with a number.

At Lightspeed Cash we used the numbers that National Net assigned to them.

For some reason at Yanks cash we call them magic 1, magic 2, etc. Not sure why that is.

Back in the day I had a server farm in a UUNET datacenter and we named them after carribean islands, starting with the lower right hand corner and working our way up.

The ones I remember most clearly were:
trinidad, tobago, st lucia, barbados

No, just old hardware and probably has bad memory. I use it to test shit.

We started with greek gods...zeus, apollo, etc and then ran out of those and now are onto cars.....lexus, mercedes, saleen, etc but those are getting slim now too (for cool car names anyway, don't want any like pacers or pintos)

Not sure what we will move onto next :)
