Iran to publish Holocaust cartoons

Iran to publish Holocaust cartoons From: Agence France-Presse From correspondents in Tehran February 07, 2006 IRAN'S largest selling newspaper announced today it was holding a contest on cartoons of the Holocaust in response to the publishing in European papers of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. "It will be an international cartoon contest about the Holocaust," said Farid Mortazavi, the graphics editor for Hamshahri newspaper - which is published by Teheran's conservative municipality. He said the plan was to turn the tables on the assertion that newspapers can print offensive material in the name of freedom of expression. "The Western papers printed these sacrilegious cartoons on the pretext of freedom of expression, so let's see if they mean what they say and also print these Holocaust cartoons," he said. Iran's fiercely anti-Israeli regime is supportive of so-called Holocaust revisionist historians, who maintain the systematic slaughter by the Nazis of mainland Europe's Jews as well as other groups during World War II has been either invented or exaggerated. Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad prompted international anger when he dismissed the systematic slaughter by the Nazis of mainland Europe's Jews as a "myth" used to justify the creation of Israel. Mr Mortazavi said tomorrow's edition of the paper will invite cartoonists to enter the competition, with "private individuals" offering gold coins to the best 12 artists - the same number of cartoons that appeared in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. Last week, the Iranian foreign ministry also invited British Prime Minister Tony Blair to Teheran to take part in a planned conference on the Holocaust, even though the idea has been branded by Mr Blair as "shocking, ridiculous, stupid". Mr Blair also said Mr Ahmadinejad "should come and see the evidence of the Holocaust himself in the countries of Europe", to which Iran responded by saying it was willing to send a team of "independent investigators". |

It will CLEARLY demonstrate the difference between countries run by muslims, and countries run by human beings that have fully evolved into civilized creatures....... Besides, how fucking funny could a cartoon from Iran POSSIBLY be? Buahaha! :thumbsup |
As if these iranian newspapers don't already publish anti-semantic cartoons?
|
They would have been better off doing cartoons of jesus or god

Would these happen to be the same Iranians that are all pissed off because the world doesn't want them to have nuclear capabilities? Haha...
This whole situation has me laughing my ass off. These people are like the little cocky kid in school that enjoyed taunting the bigger kids thinking they would never retaliate. Yeh, right... |
That's funny actually... Why in the hell did we ever invade Iraq? What the hell was Iran doing before Iraq?
I don't see how they can be so furious of the cartoons if they are going to allow it to happen in reverse. |
Israel is going to go nuts. Holy shit.
This would be like the States saying we don't like tacos. Mexico would go crazy! |
hehe, actually this is no a "recip", it would have been if they held this "contest" for cartoons with Jesus or the Danish flag or so ...
|
Seriously time to take out Irans fighing ability and nuke plants...They will use the weapons once they have them...

We didnt have an "insult an arab" contest , it was one comic.. |
Im fucking sick of the whole thing - Ive found myself saying things about muslims in the last week or so that I actually dont like myself for.
They need to fucking get a grip and sort it out amongst themselves. The moderate muslims say its just a small minority - in that case why dont they shut the fuckers up before we go in and shut the whole fucking lot of them up. |

Back in November Turkish press tried to get back at those horribly offending Danes with a counter-caricature of Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen in bed with PKK leader/terrorist Abdullah Ocalan:

1st, jews won't burn any embassies following this...

..and how many Iranian embassies will go ablaze because of it?
What a fucking barbarians. |

Honestly Europe doesn't have free speech anyway. I was kind of suprised that noone was charged over these Prophet cartoons, I guess they were lucky that they were too high profile and in the media. I do find it ironic though all these Government leaders coming out saying 'Free Expression is the European way' when people have similarly criticised Islam have ended up on trial in some of these nations.
Read this article for example and you will see what I mean, this was written prior to the whole cartoon uproar: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...400110,00.html Quote:

So I don't see how this shows there's never been freedom of speech? |

The second article there, although you are correct he was found not guilty and is under retrial, shows the huge double standard on this issue of free speech in Britian, in that they will dedicate an entire unit of police to tracking down one man for saying something about Islam being a vicious faith, which if it were said by someone else (i.e. someone in a newspaper) it would not even get notice. I know Europeans have a tendacy to take offence when compared to America in a poor way, but think openly about the issue. Free speech in Europe is certainly not clearly defined, and there is a number of topics, whilst offensive yes, that are made illegal which under the American Constitutional model would be allowed. What I believe is that the American model is one that we should all support and demand, not some model that condemns certain forms of expression because they may be offensive. I think this article is an excellent summary and I'd suggest you read it http://www.sundayherald.com/53960 It ends with this: Quote:

Get your iranian flags ready.

why drawing cartoons denying Holocaust is not ok and cartoons laughing about Islam is ok?
well, how about cartoon denying the 9/11 ? personaly I don't have a problem with cartoons no matter what's the subject, but some will have a problem with it , don't you think? |
