HI DEF Video Thread - What model cam are you using?

I'm in the market for a new HI DEF camcorder and I have always been a Sony guy. I love my VX2000, reliable, built like a tank and those 3 - 1/3" CCDS kick ass.

But time to try HD. :-) I'm looking at the HDR-FX1 HDV 1080i

What's everyone else using?

Discuss away anything about HD Video...............

Cheers,
BV

We got the HDR-FX1, been shooting HDV now for just over 7 or 8 months, and paired up with the HVR-10mu for capturing and editing / rendering in Vegas, it can't be beat, IMO...

Great camera but I dont know if I would buy it from B&H in NYC. They are a box house and have great prices but if you have a problem with the camera
then you are on your own. This is from my past experience anyways but that was a few years ago. Might look at a local for it...good luck!

HVR Z1 kicks ass

The HDV cams don't give you any higher quality of a picture. They just give higher resolution and a 16x9 chip.

The only benefit for the web are higher res frame grabs.

The real benefit for shooting HDV is when your content is watched on a large HD TV because it will fill up the entire screen and also look much better than standard def. This is the only time there is a noticable difference.

Go with the sony Z1 - you will have fewer limitations!

Been using it from the day it hit the market.

Don't kid yourselves into thinking the Sony HC1 is as good as the Sony FX1/Z1. I have had both cams side by side on a $20,000 Sony TV and the difference in picture quality is very noticable. The FX1 just blows it away.

The HC1 can make a nice deck though :)

We use the HVR-Z1U and it's absolutely top notch.. Higher price, well worth it

The only serious difference between an HC-1 and the FX/Z1/A1U(E) is the pixel density. The HC-1 has to double up the pixels to get to 1080i

i like the HC-1 for it's small size and for POV. the Z1 has better audio management capabilities and has most of the feature sets on the exterior of the camera. The HC-1 has 90% of the same features in the lcd menu.

:2 cents:
