GM LT1 owners or mechanics of GFY, inside please...
 

If a lifter or rocker was going bad/out of alignment, would it chatter after the engine is at operating temp. or only when cold/warming up? Or does it have more to do with the oil pressure or tempature?

I am trying to rule out one or the other. It could mean replacing an oil pump or replacing some heads, and I am too lazy to drive to the dealer without some ideas on what to have them look at first...lol

Normally a lift makes noise when cold..
you can add a half a qt of auto trans fluid to the motor oil and see if
it silences....

but on a chevy.. you adjust the lifters by removing the lash...

sounds like you just might need to turn one rockerbolt half a turn or so

Shit man I hope it's that easy. Funny thing is it comes and goes, and the only constant is the temp. of the engine. If I start it and let it get up to 180 or so it's good to go, but under that for the first few blocks it whines like a little girl and is horrible to listen to. I coulnd't figure out if the oil pressure was just finally building or if it was because the internal parts were heating into place.

put yoru head near the valve cover, you'll hear it right under the valve cover if its the rocker.. a lifter is more of a ticking down inside of the engine and you won't hear it right near the valve cover.. either way pull off the valve covers and make sure the rockers are torqed to spec.
