Super Bowl a Fix?

I just woke up after watching the Super Bowl last night.

Not a classic game though I was keen to see how the video ref / appeals would help ensure the result was fair etc as I would like to see them used here in soccer.

I have to say the first TD they ruled out for 'pushing off' was a little bit harsh and as for the TD that the stealers got well, if that ball crossed the line then I am the pope.

There seemed to be a lot of hype around this guy they nick named the 'Bus' a fat bloke who managed to drag his ass 38 yards in about 12 attempts. Was this whole thing rigged to get this guy his SB ring? :Oh crap

I don't know the politics of Grid Iron, but this seemed a little one sided with the penalty calls.

The 'trick play' was wicked, I will try to recreate this on Madden 2005 next time I play a mate .

Have to fell for the seahawks, in my view they played better though nerves seem to get to the players when it mattered.

Quit confusing the Super Bowl with Madden 2005.

adultfora 02-06-2006 04:49 AM

think you just did bet on the wrong team - and got mad lol:p

Its not like in real football in the American version the ball just have to touch the line not be free off the line.
I had a bet on u46.5 and no points in the second quater and as much as I would have liked the call overturned, I think it touched the line.

ListYourPorn 02-06-2006 08:22 AM

But was there a general feeling that the Stealers should win.

Not confusing it it with Madden ;-)

I have a watched a few games in my time not seen so many penalties called, the one they called against Hassleback for a below the knee tackle was crazy too.

So to the pro bowl, is that the NFC Vs AFC game?

WebairGerard 02-06-2006 08:27 AM

not fixed thought the officiating did suck and it sucked all season in NFL this year. The Seahawks never managed to take advantage in first half when they outplayed Pittsburgh. They should have had more points at halftime for sure.

Tom_PM 02-06-2006 08:28 AM

No definitely not fixed.

The deal with the Steelers TD was that the video replay did not provide enough information to definitively overrule the call made on the field. Thats the standard for replay overrules. The replay must absolutely show that the call on the field was wrong.

The one they called against Hassleback was stupid yep, lol. He wasn't blocking, he was tackling.

ListYourPorn 02-06-2006 08:33 AM

It really did end up costing them the game, could they not contest that call too?

They also said in the UK studio the NFL were having talks about one NFL league game being played in the UK next season, the fox guiy then said not a hope, thats a shame for us brits :(

CDSmith 02-06-2006 08:34 AM

I don't see where there's any hint of a fix. That's ridiculous. The Seahawks had every opportunity to put the ball in the endzone, especially in the first half when they were the only ones getting first downs. You snooze, you lose.

Joesho 02-06-2006 08:36 AM

I agree, I wonder the same thing myself!

that game looked like the Guards Vs the inmates in " the longest yard" on many many of the calls!

EVEN MR. MAGOO COULD SEE THAT MOTHER FUCKER DID NOT TOUCH THE LINE OR BREAK THE PLANE OF THE END ZONE!

Mr. Blue 02-06-2006 08:37 AM

Not a great game. Not great officiating. Ultimately though the Seahawks blew it...I could tell when they were leaving the field at halftime and they ask Holmgren about the last series of plays and all he could talk about was Roethlisberger not crossing the line. The game was only 7-3 at that moment and you could tell it was game over.

jimthefiend 02-06-2006 08:42 AM

Totally lame ass fucking refs.

King Adam 02-06-2006 08:48 AM

Seahawks totally blew it. I agree that the officials sucked. The TD the called off for offensice interference was total bullshit. That was when the game changed.

When Ben run for the TD it was good. All you need is for any part of the ball to cross any part of the line and it clearly did.

Seattle also missed 2 field goals that would have kept it closer and kept Seattle in the game. The hawks totally outplayed Pitt in the first half and only managed to get 3 points out of it.

They can only blame themselves. Oh yeah, the hawks coaching SUCKED big balls too. Blown calls at the end of the first half and blown calls at the end of the game.

sfera 02-06-2006 08:49 AM

im sure the refs get something ;)

ListYourPorn 02-06-2006 08:49 AM

OK maybe a a fix is a storng term, just seemd that the calls really went agains the SH. I picked the stealers before KO as my team to back though wanted to see more of a closer game which I think the officials ensured never happened.

Can you explain to me what the pro bowl is pls, this game I can't quite understand, I think its the best players from two leagues playing off in a charity match - is this correct? :)

abadfish 02-06-2006 09:14 AM

There were a couple questionable calls imo but in the end the Seahawks fucked up. I thought they were the better team and should have won the game and they didn't.

ListYourPorn 02-06-2006 09:57 AM

yeah its a shame - I really liked the Sea Gals :-)

Fetish 02-06-2006 10:01 AM

Seattle just could not handle the pressure of being in the big game. Maybe next year. Congrats to the Pitt fans.

Raven 02-06-2006 10:19 AM

I started gambling in '85. Seahawk games, whether on the road or at home, always had the worst officiating I've ever seen....we called the refs, the third team, it was that bad.

HOWEVER.

In spite of years of bad calls, they managed to have a solid winning season and earned the right to go to the Bowl.

They simply could not get their game going. They started out okay, but Matt never settled down. Jeremy missed three essential catches..and there were other mistakes.

They didn't get blown out. They lost. There is always next year.

Fans for every team in the history of sports will say the refs are against their team. One of those freaky human things I guess. :upsidedow

I wonder if the stealer fans feel that they were lucky to win or that they felt their team was better. The stealers CB is quite a guy, he took some massive risks which paid off.

I also was a little supprised that the seahawks didnt take on a 4th & Inches later in the game, I know its risky though this is a once in a lifetime game and if you are going to loose you may as well loose by 100 points and try for the win.

BTW could you tell me what the Pro Bowl is please :)
