lol good point! I think it originates from the English gentry and the long test matches that usually go for 5 days! the match they are playing atm is limited over 50 overs each, all played in one day, so it's faster and no time for tea breaks. the south africans still have to bat and they ned almost 7 runs per over to win! :pimp

1 over is 6 balls ( a bit like 6 balls pitched in baseball) and there are 20 over matches (each side faces the same amount of overs called an Innings unless they are bowled out first) there are also 50 over matches and then there are test matches that go for more than 1 day, up to 5 days.)

the 20 over matches are very similar to baseball! :thumbsup

Have you ever watched a game of baseball? It's the most boring game ever invented. Twenty20 cricket games are a million times better!

I prefer tests though. Give me a 5 day draw any day :thumbsup

yes and ablostlutely LOVING it!!!

Gilly just kicked some SERIOUS arse - 88 off 66 holy fuck!!! gotta love his batting style!

I think the south africans will have to just come out swinging so i'm looking forward to seeing some more 4's and 6's.

Do you know if there are going to be anymore 20/20 games this summer? I loved watching them - run rates or 8 or 9 an over....

bhutocracy 02-05-2006 12:34 AM

sorry, i've got paint drying and I can't drag myself away from it :)

yup I saw smith go down - they just showed a fan with a banner 'smith's wicket was cheaper than this sign' :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Hopefully the south africans can pull off some great strokes - would like them to stop losing so easily

Yeah I absolutely loved watching the 20/20 games - symonds smashed the absolute crap out of the ball!

No way is cricket like watching paint dry - only game I watch every single match possible :)

spooky181 02-05-2006 01:14 AM

I'm sure this is a 50 over match.....:Oh crap

JuiceMonkey 02-05-2006 01:28 AM

:1orglaugh obviously you don't like dogma, absolutes or taking a comment out of context at all! :winkwink: similar similar similar to baseball! 2/3 types of matches we referred to last for less than a day, not 5 and the game that is currently on is one of those and in the 2/3 we mentioned (20/20 and 50 over matches) the players wear coloured uniforms! apart from that you seem to have an amazing grasp of the game! :1orglaugh :winkwink:

:1orglaugh the crowd cme up with some pearlers. I agree, a close game is much more entertaining altho I don't mind us giving the odd side a thrashing every now and then. symonds had more hits than elvis 4 sure!! :thumbsup

yeah gotta agree seeing a good thrashing isn't bad - but over the last few years it has happened way too much - bring on some close games...

Actually did you see the game against the kiwis last year? One dayer - last over something like 16runsto get and the kiwi batsman was hitting 4 after 4 after 4. Then there's me sitting in traffic on the harbour bridge screaming at my radio :)

Yeah I agree. Much better to have a close game instead of the result being obvious after 10 overs.

The Ashes were the best cricket ever. All so close. And they were tests (5 day games) too!

Yup couldn't agree more - alot of people act as tho we were smashed by the english - but it was fantastic close cricket.

Which reminds me - at the beach the other day i over heard a couple of english guys - 'god i hate the sand here' - his mate replied with 'what do you expect from a country that can't play cricket' :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

You're lucky. Cricket is crap played by non athletes, most with duck feet that wouldn't get a game in any other code. What about Shane Warne for christ sake...He is a wood-duck on and off the field. Can't even read a book and gets caught (and banned) for taking his mummies diet pills.

Cricket should be sent to oblivion. Nobody watches the games. It's only television desperate for content that keeps the moronic game alive. For all you Americans, it takes 5 days to complete a test match. What you say, 5 days for a game. If you saw some of the guys playing, you would understand why it takes 5 days and even then, the games are mostly a draw.
